Thread: Question on Tailor-Image Designing

Cheyenne has always been a Tailor, first joined with pistols, then I decided I wanted her to be strictly a crafter, so I switched to Artisan.I added Architecture, but switched it not too long after to add Chef to make her Master Tailor/Master Chef/Master Artisan. I just dropped her Master Artisan to make her Master Merchant because I needed the extra vendors, but I kept artisan 4-4-4-1 for the better chances artisan tailor/chef items. I also created Brenna who was originally Master Entertainer/Master Dancer/Master Image Designer with some music thrown in. I then dropped Entertainer/Dancer/Music for Architecture and Merchant to be added. So she is now Architect/Merchant/Image Designer. My husband has a Weaponsmith but he needs the points for something else, so he needs to drop it. I was going to try the respec thing so he could still have a weaponsmith (even though technically I will now have a WS) since he loves it so much so I was going to switch the Architect (he already has one anyway, no real need for 2) for WS. Now after all that, here is my thinking. . . . Im considering totally changing Brenna to WS/Chef/Merchant and then (I know it is still respecing, but it doesnt really seem like it since we have already went through the grind once, just on different char's) having Cheyenne drop Chef and some of her merchant (I found I would have enough vendors since Brenna will remain Master Merchant) to pick up Image Designer. It just seems kinda cool to be able to make customers pretty with new clothes and then be able to compliment that with a make over What are your opinions on being Tailor/Image Designer? and with the changes Im proposing? Im actually pretty excited about it. I get to keep my chef and Image Designer which I love and he will get to (in a way) keep his WS which he loves, but the new way seems a little more efficient in a way. Im always having people ask after getting some new clothes if I know an ID'er so I log on Brenna. but Ive yet to have anyone ask if I know a chef, usually anything like that is, "Do you happen to know of any chef vendors?" so I just direct them to my vendor, since I dont "cook" on the fly anyway. Sorry for being long winded, I appreiate any comments/ideas ya'll have.

Thank You

I will say that I've loved having ID and Tailor, and I've always wished I could mess around with skill points like you did to get them on the same character. I think it would be worth it.

Its taken almost 2 years and lots and lots of credits worth of grinding, but I think I have finally figured out what I want lol In a way I hate to use the respec thing, but it really is gonna save me from the time and credits to change my char's around again. And Im not gaining a skill that we havent already mastered at least once lol This will be the 3rd time for WS. Hubby did it WS/AS/DE on one char, dropped WS/AS for Merch/Arch, dropped Arch for Artisan. Then he did WS/AS/Merch on another char. That is the char that he is dropping the WS and he gave AS back to the original one that had it, so now he is DE/AS/Artisan. He gave Arch to another char that also has AS (he couldnt make up his mind on what faction armor he wanted to sell, so he has one of each). I guess he worse than me on char's lol At least I havent ever changed the Tailor on Cheyenne or the ID on Brenna until now. lol Though looking at it, Im kinda wishing I had taken advantage of the respec thing right after the CU to try a couple different templates. And looking at another thing, Im beginning to think that 10 accounts is a little overkill lol Anyway, thank you for responding on it Im really thinking that I will like it the newway.

You'll love it! I've been a Master Tailor / Master ID since the end of '03 and never thought about changing it. I usually fly the Master Tailor tag, since we seem to be so rare these days and after outfitting someone with some clothes, they almost always ask if I know an ID. It feels good making someone happy with their clothes, but being able to make them happy with their "whole look" is even better.

I've done it both ways - tailor and ID on the same character and tailor and ID on different characters and it PAINED me to have the two skills separate. More often than not I'd be doing a custom order and end up having to say "hang on, I'll logon my alt and fix you up" - and my alt would be halfway across the galaxy, blah blah. I love having ID and tailor on the same character.

Now, another point. I separated tailor and merchant once and it was quite painful. See, if you're hand-crafting individual items it's a pain in the butt to transfer them to another char and then put them up for sale. Inventory and house limits are very difficult. I find it a LOT easier to just craft and load my vendors as I go. On the other hand, I served as a merchant for a friend's architect, and found that quite easy because it's pretty much identical goods at the same prices, and the furniture was in crates. In that case it was easy to transfer between characters and put up for sale.

Agree... ID / tailor has helped me make many customers happier with the end result. I posted both professions on my shop sign and have a sign inside that has appointment information on it next to my clothing vendor since I have only seen 2 other Master ID's on my server it helps that people know ill take appointments and be there for them. Good choice for a combo on the non-com side of things.

I actaully just grinded into Master ID last night (About 6 hours with a friend and a inspiration buff(s)). I've already gotten a lot of requests, but mostly from guildies who are like 'FINALLY, an ID we can talk with!' hehe. But I'm looking forward to the combo and trying it out to see what I can do, hehe. I'm a Master ID / Master Tailor / Merhcant 0-4-0-4 / Artisan 2-4-4-4 with some FS crafting and senses. I'll be dropping the first tree in Artisan and some merchant for the FS skills if I ever get to the point, heh.

Thank You to everyone for your input and support

I decided to do it I took my Master ID/Master Arch/Master Merch and respeced her to Master WS/Master Chef and kept her Master Merch. Now Im in the process of changing my Master Tailor/Master Chef/Master Merch to Master Tailor/Master ID with Merch 0-4-4-4. I am now really liking the fact that Master ID requires only 47 skill points, so it is allowing me to keep 10 vendors

I'm a Master Tailor/Master Image Designer and I also have Merchant 0004, and Dancer 0040. I love my template. First I trained Merchant and set up my shop the wayI wanted it, then I dropped to Merchant 0004.

I've always thought the tailor/ID combo worked really well together. I would be concerned as well about losing the merchant, but I'm sure it would be easy to work around.
Good Luck!

If you go for the custom-order Tailor/ID (as I did) you don't really need to worry that much about Merchant. Visit the cantina's (hang out in Theed and C'net andthe MO)and you will get the business. With increased inventory space this is even easier.

You will end up makingalmost all your clothes by hand. That personal touch will win you lifeling die-hard customers who will refer others to you. And you can charge more for on-the-spot service
