Thread: Change prices because of the socket change or not?

I'm considering raising the prices of my 3 and 4 sockets items now... I don't feel that I should decrease the price of the ones without 4 sockets however, so I was thinking of adding 10% per socket or something... How have you all reacted to the socket change in your prices?

Also, have you noticed a big change in your sales? I know I haven't, surprisingly. My BE clothes still sell well as well as most of my regular clothes, sockets or not... Just people don't only buy black anymore but whatever color seems to have 4 sockets on them lol.

I see it this way; if we price higher for sockets, that alone will raise the perception with customers that more sockets = best and anything with less sockets = all the rest. I feel if we, the tailors, devalue anything with less than 3 sockets, so will everyone else, whereas before, the majority of the clothing buying public really doesn't care how many, if any sockets an item has.

Yes, I've had some very few customers special order an outfit with all articles having 4 sockets. These were people in pursuit of a "super suit" especially created for putting skill tapes into. These buyers are willing to pay extra to have 4 sockets guaranteed. To guarantee this always did require an occasional remake when that random 3 socket snuck in. This is still true, only now it might take several more remakes to get those 4 sockets, and the cost of remakes (resources consumption) and only that, should be passed on to the customer. Not the fact it has 4 sockets, but the fact you had to consume more materials to fulfill the order than normal.

I never have priced any item higher because it had more sockets and I'm not going to start now. I have hundreds of items on my vendors with 4 sockets now, and sales have not altered one whit. A zero socket item still sells just as often as a 4 socket.

Do we really want to inflate the price of our clothing, thereby creating the very perception in customer's minds that only 4 socket clothing is worth anything? Why? Why would we add fuel to the fire that's burning down our house?

So far I am just charging the same. If customers complain about the lack of sockets enough, or if I end up with only 2 or less socket items (even in popular colors) left on my vendor each time I restock, then I'll reconsider. For now, I don't think it will be a huge issue, but I haven't started making BE clothing yet.

No pricing change with me, and I'm pretty much just pretending that this socket debacle doesn't exist.

My sales have been absolutely horrid though. But mainly I attribute that to server problems. The past few days the vendors have been so messed up that half the time I can't even get them to initialize and adding something onto the vendor takes at least 5min each time. I can only assume that would-be customers are having the same frustration.

If we are given a line of experimentation that allows us to fiddle with the number of sockets, then I will change my prices accordingly. *wishful thinking*

So far, I haven't changed my prices yet. In the future, I don't know. It depends on how my customers react really, and no one has complained so far

Ive not changed prices, nor do i remake items with low sockets, most of my customers are entertainers or at least those who want to 'look' good and most dont care about sockets. Enough infact dont care that ive noticed no difference at all in my sales, so feel no need to change my prices at all, i still have the same prices as i have for months

Infact not a single person has mentioned sockets to me at all, but i do miss a lot of my customers due to being asleep during US peak time

I wouldn't even consider doing socket specific pricing simply because of all the added work that would entail.

I started out with my clothing vendor with each item having it's own price, after that I switched and had everything in 250 credit increments.

After that I went to 500 credit increments with a 1500 credit minimum for everything.

And now that I've stopped bothering to restock my clothing vendor I wish I'd simply gone with a 2500 credit increment price system (ie 2500 credits for most items, 5000 for mid range, 7500 for some high end, and 10000 for some other high end)

There's no way I would be willing to spend the time it would take to fiddle with pricing because of stupid sockets.

I'm not changing my prices. Even though as a master, you could usually always count on getting 4 sockets in an item, it has always been random and there has never been a guarantee.

I'm not changing my prices, as others have said, I sell as many 1 or 2 socket items as I do 3 and 4. In fact I don't think many of my customers are too bothered by how many sockets they have.

As the voice of the resistance here, this BE tailor has changed his prices accordingly. My price for BE clothes used to be 5k + 5k * # of tissues used. My new price is (# of sockets * 2500) + (5k * # of tissues). I still very rarely get sales on 0-2 socket items, while 4 socket items go quickly. For a custom order, I charge my old price, and the customer has to settle for how many sockets come out. I couldn't imagine repeatedly remaking a 6-tissue leather trimmed shirt until I got 4 sockets on it. Yike.

So far I haven't raised prices on most clothes. If they specifically ask for 4 sockets, the price goes up, though.
