Thread: Components for rugs are dropping on Test Center. No tailor involvement for assembly. :(

There's a discussion about the new dropped components here. People have been reporting that "thread for use in a loom" is dropping and that junk dealers give out tools that let people assemble the new rug from its components.

Rugs? Threads? Looms? Crafting rugs should have been right up our alley. Sigh. Ah well.

Yeah, I got no heads up on this. This should be tailor, or at the very least architect.

Anyway, I'm relieved because, honestly, when the corres first told me about it, I thought it was a component that we got to make (oh joy) and I knew that's just what y'all would want - another component for a finished product that we don't craft. So in one sense I'd love for rugs to be craftable by tailors, but on the other hand... oy, thank gawd we didn't get another ridiculous and useless component.

Well... I suppose that having components dropped instead of tailor-crafted is a blessing in disguise, but there are so many ways that this could have been betterimplemented by the devs. For example, they could have done this to promote interdependency:

Using some master artisan components, architects craft a limited-use "loom" that acts like a crafting tool and is certified for tailors.

Tailors are given rug schematics in the tailoring tree and, using the loom, craft decorative rugs out of tailoring components and significant quantities of hide from scouts/rangers.

This would have left the door open for "rare" rugs to be crafted from looted/quested schematics. Heck, they could have even required looted components too. But the point is that the majority of tailors would still have been able to do a number of ordinary rugs in addition to the rare ones. Plus you're involving scouts/rangers, architects, and artisans in the process too (even combatants in the case of the looted components).

Maybe it's just a pipe dream, but it sure would have been nice.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying we shouldn't craft rugs. I'm saying I thought that the only role we were getting was component slave *tantrum*, and this is better than component slave. Anyhoo, devs are out for the long weekend, but I'll bug them on Tuesday (posting on the corre board now is a guaranteed "slip to page 2")

/cheer! Sounds good. I'd rather see rugs delayed for a few patches than have them introduced this way.

/nod. I don't care WHO gets to craft it, so long as it becomes a crafter required item. All these loot drop, loot assembly items coming out are beginning to scare me. More and more, lottable items are becoming better than any crafter can make. Heck, even making this an artisan item ( ala early furniture, just like personal harvies are early structures) is fine by me. But weapons dropping like crazy with better stats than craftable, armor dropping better than craftable ( BH armor is common, high stat less common), etc etc.

Didn't mean to turn this into a rant, but this is sounding more and more EQ every day.....

While it is most important to me, for us to have expanded capabilities and I'd love to see rugs as something that is done between Tailors and Architects; I am thrilled to see this move to give the entire player base something fun to mess around with.

Personally, it seems like this kind of stuff has been missing from the game. Things you can do for yourself, by yourself that are unlike anything else you can obtain. If they work it smart and carefully, they can do many more things without negative impact on the professions. The important thing is to make sure the professions have an alternative to offer.

Take the new rugs for example... you can only get the orange and blue rug by getting the materials yourself and seeing the junk dealer. They should offer an alternative "rug" that is nice and mildly ornate, made by crafters (as I said before, I'd like to see a pairing of tailor/architect here..makes sense to me). If a player see's a blue or orange one, it will still be seen as special.

I would personally like to see any player made items, such as this be "no drop" (placeable only in structures where the owner has admin or owns). I do think another danger can be in the saturation of such items. IF they are nodrop, they can make the components easier to obtain without worrying about flooding the market with items NOT made by crafters. Thus making it more fun for everyone.

If done as proposed, is there something that would still cause us grief that I'm not seeing? Just one opinion..would enjoy seeing others. Maybe give n'Jessi something to go to the Dev's with after the Holiday.

Edit: Posted as garble.. spaced for reading.

Trying again... lol

exactly, that's how I feel as well. I'll always be happy if we get new items to make, but if we're not making the "end product" I have no desire to make more components.

I believe that when the Deaths Head Bunker came out I read that the Devs are sensitive to crafters.

Does anyone actually believe this?

I mean, are they really sensitive to pure crafters aka non-combatants? I really hate that all these new schematics are primarily loot/combat quest droppable. It means I can't get them, and that's just not right.

I've said this before, but I'll repost here. I don't mind having rare or special resources used in crafting being dropable from mobs or combat quests. Players who want the items can do the legwork and bring the resources to the crafter to make them. But the schematics should only be attainable through a crafting quest. My 2 cents.
