I almost broke through the 4 million mark this month a real noticeable improvement in
sales. This is due in part to a few store and vendor changes with more coming. Also with
sad news my server has lost a couple of very good tailors, while I suppose I should be
happy that I have less compeition. I believe their are more than enough sales to go around
and I like going to other tailors shops, looking for new ideas, or just as a price guide to
my own store. The crumb of good news is I have trained quite a few new tailors this month
my hope is at least some will say the course.
Vendor Changes
The start of the month was very slow and I noticed during part of June and the 1st week in
July crates of tailor goods had dropped. In fact I had not sold any cloth in the last two
weeks so for a changed I closed the vendor after the second week. Its only to be expected
with the holo grind gone the requirement for these crates is much less. In saying that I
have had a few requests for them in the last week (wookie armour) but I will let some other
tailor have the business now. I also tried out a few new clothing ideas, I had a friend
request a dark jedi and sith outfit. I came up with two nice outfits but it did not look
very sith like to me however my friend loved them and suggested I put them up as a line for
sale. To my shock they went like hotcakes so I guess it plays to try new things you never
know what people are in to buying.
A New Store
With the crates vendor gone I relised I had a spare vendor to play with. While talking to a
With the crates vendor gone I relised I had a spare vendor to play with. While talking to a
new tailor about how hard a it was for a new player to start a business I decided to see
for myself. The plan was to set up a new store in a location that I had not done business
before. I choose the town of coronet due of course to its large population. I picked a
location close to the city to its south. The shop was going to display the outfits so I
choose the generic style 2 with 3 long rooms. With the vendor in the second this means
people have a chance to see all the nice clothes before they reach the vendor. So with the
shop display complete, the vendor ready (4 hours spent trying to find a vendor with a face
that would not scare people away) and the clothes stocked all I had to do is sit back and
wait for the customers.
Or not as the case was, it did not go well in the first 5 days I had one customer buy 3
items that was it. I knew my vendor was on the global map but unless people enter your
store I noticed it does not appear on the list. But even going to waken my vendor atfer
each reset did little to help business.
Then I had an idea something I had bought but never used was my Merchant Droid I hate spam
at starports loads of people afk shouting. However its not as if like a lot of spammers I
was standing their AFK shouting day and night. Its what the droid was designed for, so I
gave him a simple message and stood him by the coronet starport.
It worked a treat much better than I could have expected, personally I did not believe
anyone paided much attention to the shouts and droids. Its seems I was very wrong people
flood to the shop and business really picked. After a few days of this people got to know
the shop so it was busy even without my droid.
So what have we learnt this month, well starting a new business is not easy dont expect
overnight sucess. I did feel like quitting the new store after just two weeks but it was
worth sticking to in the end. I have also discovered the value of the merchant droid, they
are not very common yet. Perhaps people believe as I did that they are limited in value
however for opening a new store they proved they have proved themselves a very useful tool.

When something is purchased from your vendor you get an email telling you the item that was sold, price and what planet it was sold on. It allows you to keep track of your sales.

It's always interesting to read your reports. I was shocked that the droid helped at all, because I thought that people would just ignore it. Definitely a useful insight for tailors.

I think it's the persons that get's ignored, not the droids. I know I woulnd't ignore it since that's what they are made for.

Very Nice report once again Kirrana. I was also shocked that the barker droid worked. One counter point that I am seeing though is component sales are fast becoming my #1 seller. I now have one factory running constantly to keep up with Synth Cloth sales. I don't know if the end of the hologrind is the cause of this as people return to their professions and now need armor, or if the influx of new players is driving up armor sales. I have 2 new armorsmiths and a couple well know ones as well the regularly buy out my stock of synth cloth on a weekly basis.
Hakk, I don't know if you have discovered this yet or not, but there is a great program that Kirrana, myself, and other tailors use to track these sales. Its called Merchant's Friend. There is a link in the FAQ to it. You do a /mailsave before deleting your vendor sales emails, then run Merchant's Friend. It organizes all your sales into a nice report.

Thanks Guys,
Hakk Merchants friend program as asrai pointed you to works out most of the information the rest is just adding up a few figures and working out the averages. Its easy to use all you need to do is /mailsave and to record monthy just archive the mails on the last day of the of each month.
The date spanned is how many days over which the sales have taken place in this case the 31 days of July.
On the barker droid I was surprized too, I know i have always ignored the spammers at the starports but the droids are not so bad. They have a limited timer so unlike the afk people they dont do it every minute. Also the droid gives customers a waypoint to the shop I think people are more open to click the droid rather than trtying to type the waypoint in.
I still wish in a way I did not have to use itbut it was hard to see how I would open a new store and get people in it. Hopefully they will get around to fixing a lot of the vendor issues to make it better for new people.
ASrai I think your right in the last few weeks I have noticed a sudden demand for crates again. I think maybe i did quit them too earlyit goes like that sometimes, quite for a few days with little or no sales then picks up all of a sudden. However with an end to the holo grind I know orders for 40 plus crates is at an end. I also face strong compeition for crates another tailor is famous for themtheir is not enough business to go around.
I cant wait to see other peopleaccounts, I love to read how different people approach the profession, but also how business is different on each server. I think I will try to publish a little more information on the sale figures soon give people a better idea of sales across the month and the types of items i sell.
