well today i shut down my vendor house for a few days so i could restock, over the weekend i was gone the entire time, i come back and i did very very good in sales, 370,000in normal clothing sales alone.
this good weekend unfortunately left my vendor ransacked in certain catagories.
i changed the sign to say "closed for restocking" and added a high access fee to keep people out until i get things back in order.
what i was curious about, is does anyone else do this? is this ethical and understanding? or will the closed sign just piss people off.

I've been pondering this same situation for awhile as well. I really need to spend time reorganizing the vendors, restocking, and what not. After reading your post and thinking about it a couple minutes, I was thunderstruck by an idea that might help the problem.
Closed for Restocking and Inventory
Please Email [insert your name] for Custom Orders.
Please see [Insert favorite catalog site here] for ideas.
That way your good customers won't get pissy and can still buy stuff, while the browsers might not email you, they still might remember you or send in an order anyway.

The above suggestion is good. I would also add a reopening date, so that 1) People know you really *are* going to reopen(lots of people who label houses with "temporarily closed" that have never opened again, people don't want to come back to find out the crafter is gone for good) and 2) So people know exactly when they can come back and shop. Just make sure you give yourself enough time, so you can meet your reopen date, as it would annoy people if you put that you'll be open again by Wednesday, and they come by Friday to find you still closed, etc.
That's what I've always done anytime I had to change things. Or, I put all inventory on 1 vendor and left it open while I revamped. If you do that, label your shop to suit that.
People understand renovations and restocking. Keeping them informed is the key to not pissing people off.

I did the exact same thing not too long ago. Everything was unorganized and I felt I couldn't keep up so I just closed it and

spent a whole night restocking the vendors. IMO It helps mentally. Sometimes I just feel that my whole shop has gone to hell and I need to just sit down and spend a day replentishing/reorganizing. I had a few repeat customers say "Dang man I went over to your place to day buy noticed you closed it down, I was looking to buy some camo pants etc." My responce was to tell them that I would be opening again soon.
I'd say, if your vendors are registered on the plantery map then it would be wiseto unregister them and put up a sign saying"We're closed for restocking but will be opening again sometime near<insert a time here>"
I dont think it will piss people off unless you have your vendors registered :/ I know I would hate traveling to a store only to find that I have to pay 50,000 credits to enter.

That is a bad Idea for Merchant's that don't have that skill. But good if you have the skill!

i dont see any problem with it so long as you unregister your vendors... when i am out shopping and see a sign that says "closed" i simply run past it. id rather see it say closed than have to run inside, realize the vendor is understocked or a just plain mess, and waste my time. and if people still get pissy...well thats there own fault and just dont worry about it.
