Thread: Best way to get costumers

I have tried almost everything...The classical advertise outside starport, auction chat, chasing costumers, offers (buy one get one free). But none of those have worked better then dancing. In the cantina there's many people who constantly are looking for *cough*slutty*cough* clothes. So while im dancing I always have an advertise macro running (that doesn't spamm).

have anyone else tried this? what are your opinions?

Well, if you want a costumer, don't ask them to make you l33t uber black neo cloths

Now if you want to attract customers, the best thing to do is give it time. Offer great service, timely delivery, a friendly attitude, and they will become life long customers and tell all their friends and guildies to use you. Just be patient. It took a couple months before my shop started getting regular business.

I'm a (fairly) new master tailor myself, so I can relate. Personally, I have my main vendor registered on the map, and occasionally sell items on the bazaar with an advertisement for my shop. My first month in business (May) I did not sell much at all, only 50 items plus one large custom order. In June I did a little better, selling 61 items plus some small custom orders. Now, July's not over yet, but for some reason I'm selling more than those two months combined (which makes me a happy happy tailor ). Most of my customers are referred by word of mouth, and I think that's really the best kind of publicity one can ask for. Just keep your master title up, keep talking to people, and the customers should come bouncing in!

I'm confused how you have an "advertise macro" running that doesn't spam. Is not that the very definition of spam (unsolisited advertisement?)

My definiton of spamm is someone who repeats the same message like every tenth second. That is annoying. Me on the other hand, repeats my message every minute (every fith minute in auction chat)

Hon that is still spam and in my book would get you ignored. For customers I'd go with what ASrai and Priall said earlier. That's what I did and yeah it's a little slow at first but it works. Not to mention if you're dancing in the cantina then just talk to the customers there and you'll make some friends and customers all at the same time.

regardless if its a minute, 30seconds, or 2 minutes, it pops a big advertisement up that no one really wants to see.

you wouldnt sit in front of a tv and seriously wish to watch the commercials would you?

macro spams are even more annoying because someone people never turn them off, one person had his macro spam

running while he was in my shop....a swift slap the face got his attention.

ack, even every minute adds ppl to my iggy list. when i macro out my wp /weres, i do between a 5-10 minute spam. more near 10 minutes tho.

you need to account for everyone else doing the spame thing, and it is a damm nusence when trying to read with everyone spamming even at a 1 minute interval.

Yes, it takes time.Time and pleasant persistence.

A couple of things I have done as a new(ish) tailor are...

drop more popular/high demand items on the bazaars at prices similar to what is currentlylisted and then have my vendor in my shoppe with items at a slightly reduced cost. When people buy theitems off the bazaar, I whip out a "Thank you for your recent purchase" in-game email (wp included), letting them know where my shoppe is and that I carry items of equal interest at least 20% lower than what ison the bazaar. I also list what the other services are that I offer (ie- BE gear, limited loot schematic items, crated packs) as well as my joy in fillingcustom orders. Throw in a few giggles and a smile or two and people are pretty happy. And even better, I see their names in my email again! This time purchasing from my shoppe. *cheer*

Hope this is helpful!

i have kinda tried this...

went into a fairly social cantina on tatooine...and when i walked in a lot of people said hi to me so i knew they were all active (as a former musician/ dancer/ ent i almost died lol) yeah so i was just like "does anyone want any clothes made?" and got a bunch of tells....

ohh and its great to find guys who are trying to flirt with a chic cause if there is a tailor near by they always like to buy her clothes! lol this happened both in this cantina and not in this cantina...so yeah find some horn dogs and youll be set!

First, I keep the galactic bazzar stocked. Every item has the name and location of my shop. The galactic vendor in Bestine pulls in 25K - 40k a day. I stock it only with high end items, fleshwraps, spec-ops coats, trenches, spec op and bounty hunter packs etc.

Second, I read this forum religously. It was here that I learned to make black smocks, rename them Trenchcoats and move 'em out like hot cakes. My recent favorite is to take the gunman's duster, color it light grey and sell "Imperial Dusters" for 5K a pop. You'll be surprised how quick you get a reputation!

Third, I invest points in the merchant trade to get more vendors and list them. I have a dedicated wookie clothing vendor and have developed a pretty loyal furry following. Second I have a "Wal-Mart" vendor for all "recyled" items that come through. Finally I have a resource and crate vendor that pulls in major cash.

I have a successful Master Artesan/Tailor/Merchant who is the SUGARMOMMA for my alt account!

i see what you mean by that, im becoming a tailor on naritus in a few weeks and i have another server i play where a guy was selling 'jedi' and 'sith' clothing. the items must have cost him all together 5k to make but he was selling these suits for 50k-100k just cos they were renamed as jedi/sith clothing.

he also made custom made hansolo and luke skywalker clothing which was actually quite good, makes the customer happy and the tailor. Mo money! Mo money! Mo money!

I've hardly advertised and I sell wares at one of my three vendor locations on a steady base.

I started out with one vendor. I ensured that it was stocked to the brim. Making sure that I had different items in an assortment of colours. Then I took more popular items that were less then 6k (Metal Bikini!!) and popped them onto the bazaar with a bit ad. This hardly works but will bring you into some cash. Make sure you have your tailor tag up and you'll get some custom orders. Ensure that you treat them well, I always tell a customer that they don't HAVE to buy anything and that I'll take the time needed until they are satisfied. I always label my clothing regardless of who is buying it that way I can throw it on a vendor if they don't want it. If they seemed really impressed or happy with my service I tell them to contact me any time and email them the waypoint to my vendor.

Word of Mouth is your friend!

I now have 3 vendor locations. Corellia, Tatooine and Dantooine. I'm loving it!
