Thread: I am roleplaying a samurai character, I need reccomendations for appropriate clothes
You see I am roleplaying a samurai character and I am at a loss for what clothes would be appropriate. So naturally my first reaction was to ask the experts. Basically what I am looking for is a fuedal japanese style garment or a group of garments that might go together to produce this particular look.
So could anyone give me some input on this?

and I am not sure about what skirts male humans can wear since I'm a wookiee
I might recommend some of these:
-Sunguard
-Long Vest (belted, thigh length vest worn tucked and crossed-over)
-Possibly a muscle shirt or flex-form shirt, maybe even no shirt. There doesn't seem to be a decent shirt that would match the Feudal Japan style. Those two I mentioned are simply skin-tight and shortsleeve. Other than that, the Trim-lined shirt is a loose shirt but it looks a bit too "piratey".
-Pants. I can't think of any offhand that would be good. Some kind of standard slacks may go well, I dunno maybe even pantaloons, heh. If you were looking for more the Hakama-wearing type samurai, then your only alternative would have to be a skirt, possibly the Modest Skirt. It will definately look like a skirt however since the Hakama has a very unique pleated style.
-Sneakers with white under might look like sandals with socks, sandals alone could be a good choice too. If you really wanted boots, then High Quality or Standard Boots would fit the period.
You might want to recommend these things and describe in detail to your tailor, the look how you want it. Find yourself a Tailor that is willing to work with you "in-person" to try things out until you find something that best-matches your vision. That's the best advice I've got ![]()
Skirts i know guys can wear so far: thin pleated, short wrap (hee!), and wrapped skirt. I'd reccomend the thin pleated skirt with the decorative vest, looks really cool imo. The dress robe is a good idea also. Sandals and a sungaurd to complete the look perhaps.

Looks rather well together.
I thought Japanese when I first saw the Tight Jacket actually. Looks like something out of an old martial arts movie.
If you want sleeves on the Tight Jacket just get yourself a simple shirt the same color as the jacket. Or maybe get a Trim-Lined Shirt or Flared-Cuff Shirt for the billowed look near the hands. I think the Flared-Cuff would look really nice with a color matching the jacket.
The Dress Slacks are the closest I could get to something they may wear. Though I had given thought to the Casual Slacks. They have more of a flair at the ankles.
As far as the sandals.. The just look japanese.
i'm a fan of pantaloons for martial artists.
Bikini leggings for guys! woo!
Hotpants are nice also *cough*
