Thread: Cooperating with fellow tailors in your region?
So I've really been enjoying myself as a tailor so far. I do a little ginding, I do a little custom work, and I slowly work up a couple of other professions. I have a little store North of Moenia that has been starting to pick up some good business, but I haven't really been advertising it yet. I have Formal IV, and I'll be getting Field Wear III sometime this weekend (yay - dusters!).
So here's my question: have any of you been cooperating with other tailors that work out of your region? There are already Master Tailors working out of Theed and Kaadara on Tarquinas. I like Moenia at the moment, so I mostly stick around there. While doing the usual harvester run, I noticed another Tailor I saw around Moenia had just set up a store just to the North of mine. Now this other tailor seems really nice, and I don't mind the competition at all. I just noticed his nice place today, so I haven't had a chance to talk to him (which is the quick answer to all this).
I was just wondering if you just all work separately, or if anyone has been able to work out a good scheme for cooperation. Any success stories or good ideas out there?

I worked with another tailor when we both started out....We decided to go up different trees so we could make money and it has worked out well. If another tailor moves into my area and I don't know him/her they better talk to me first or I'll have them roughed up by the Bounty Hunters on my payroll.
I do try really hard to avoid undercutting anyone, especially someone who helped me out with training, but sometimes it is hard to figure out how much to charge, since we have so many different pieces of clothing we can make. If you are a tailor in my area, give me a holler and I'll try to standardize my prices with yours.
Eventually I ended up joining the same guild and our shops are only two buildings apart. Im not master yet but im working my way there, and when I reach it I still plan on sending all field wear to her. And since the only formal wear I see in her shop is the Master Items I cant make yet I think she plans on doing the same for me.
Once I hit master it will take that much extra pressure off her to fill orders. Then there are two of us working on the things instead of just one. Makes for a really nice setup. Not to mention we have different hours so we cover the time fairly well. (6 hour time difference between us)
As for other tailors in the area? I havent seen any close to us, we are the only tailor shops near Keren that I know of. In Bestine I think there is one or two others, but I still get some business there.
Whenever another tailor asks me for training I give it. I figure it this way. If you are real friendly with them they may refer a customer of theirs to you if they have an item they cant make yet. Plus wouldent it have been nice if there was a higher level tailor to ask questions to when you were going up in the ranks?
Now if they put up a shop next door to mine and try to steal all our customers with cutthroat tactics then Ill have a problem with them. Having a Bio-Engineer let a Rancor run wild inside a building would really hurt the customer base. :evil grin: (Not that I think that would even work in the first place)
When I was skilling, if I got a request for an item I couldn't make, I would recommend other tailors in the area. At the time, the local master tailor would recommend us (novice tailors) for non-master items.
Now that I'm master, I train everyone for free and answer their questions. I'm usually in my house, so I don't see the novice tailors working at the public crafting stations. Since, I don't self advertise (because the amount of tells is too much to handle) I doubt the new tailors know about me. I don't see new tailors as competition, but as helpers in keeping the good people Coronet City well dressed.
