Thread: What do tailors think of this idea, as an alternative to decay?
Suppose I was to go to the local tailor andget a jacket. I really like the jacket. I don't want it to rot. I don't want it to break. I don't want to buy another one. Particularly if I have put SEAs into it.
But, that threatens to put the tailor out of business.
Suppose though, that every day I wear the jacket, it takes a few credits out of my account and transmits it to the tailor who made it. The tailor continues to make money. And I don't have to worry about losing my jacket or running around trying to find another one.
How many credits? The tailor sets the rate to promote competition (which I have to accept so that my jacket doesn't cost 1000 credits a day because the tailor slyly changed it).
Of course, if I tire of that jacket I could always get another one, and the income stream to the first tailor ends, and the income stream to the second one begins.
Over the life of my jacket a tailor could make a lot of money, even though it comes in a little at a time.
To me, this makes the people who oppose decay happy, but it also gives tailors the income stream they deserve.
One side of me is urging myself to support this, and the other says "Go back to the days of CH / Pistoleer..."
Everyone *loves* clothing... it is for a few reasons. They are, but are not limited to:
- Cheap
- Stylish
- Don't wear out
- Says something about your personality
Now, I do admit that I value each and every credit I make, and quite frankly, if I get some for providing my services, I am more than happy.
However, as a former creature handler and clothing fanatic, I can't say this would... highten my interest in clothing.
For example: "That is a very toit looking jacket, toit like a toiger (I'm sorry... I had to...) I think I want to buy it!"
*Clicks examine* "Whaaat! I don't want to pay 150 credits a day just to wear this thing... the mall doesn't make me pay to wear *my* shirts!"
So really, we get the great end of this deal, and the people get the butt. In a perfect world, I would support those FULLY, but with the crybabies we have all run into, I cannot say that I would like this. Maybe more harm than help.
I still think this is a very very creative idea, good job!
I think it's a bad bad idea. People won't want to pay a maintance fee on clothing. Even if it's one credit a day. If they are wearing a full set of clothing, it would be maybe 5 credits a day, but that's not much. The Tailor can't live off it, and what a Tailor can live off of, people will not want to pay. As the other person pointed out, you don't pay the mall for wearing your clothes each day.
However your clothes do decay. As for you Skill Enhancement Tapes. Guess what they are a Temperory bonus! Not perminate! Nothing in the game is/should be perminate. Your gun and armor decay, so should everything else.

I have no way of knowing how long my SEA works. It has never worked. ![]()
I have plenty of money. If clothing decays, I can afford to buy more should I wish. But I remain of the opinion that tailors will not benefit from decay for the reason that clothing does not enhance a stat, kill a mob or afford defense. Most people are simply not going to pay what they pay for high end guns or armor for clothing.
I was a high level fletcher in EQ. Never made a dime. Did it bother me seeing the tailors and blacksmiths in EQ making the big bucks on high end items? Sure. I worked hard to get to where I was too. But in an unregulated, free market economy, the market sets the rate, not how hard I worked.
The reason I like my idea is that it guarantees an income stream to tailors. And yes, you can makedecent moneyif you have high volume.
But ultimately I don't have a dog in this fight. Whatever they do they do.

With the upcoming patch, I will be selling high end bio-engineered, tailored clothing. And you better believe I think it should decay. When we can start offering clothes with bleed defence (that actually works) and the like, people WILL be wearing it in place of some armour. And it should decay at the same rate as armour. Full stop.
