Thread: Where to go now?

I'm about 2000 xp from picking my first Level I tailor box. Looking at the options Field wear seems like it has some high demand item is in it. But my color choices are pretty limited. So I was thinking it might be best for me to train up the whole Tailoring column to get the better colors before embarking on the paths of Casual, Field and Formal. Does this make sense?

It just seems that an item isn't as "cool" if you can only make it in a few earth tone colors. Am I thinking right? Does training up the Tailoring column grant new colors or area fewgranted for every box you train in?

You won't get all the colors before Master. Up to you now, personally I wanted to be able to make more items first, especially as most people want things to be black anyway, or the alternative is red and we only get it at master.

Don't worry about colors ... 99% of your customers want black, black and more black *sigh*

My recommendation to new tailors is go for Field Wear first since there are tons of fast selling items in that group (as you noticed), then perhaps alternate between casual and experimentation. Reason is that most of the enterainers want casual items and they do like colors.

Excellent. Thanks for the advice.

I've been doing Field wear and Tailoring in parallel. One box of field wear for the customers, and then one box of tailoring for me. Its not the most efficient way of doing things, since all I ever seem to sell lately are black clothes and backpacks, but I have to keep myself interested and I always want to make nicer stuff for myself at least. I don't expect colors to really matter as far as sales until near the top of the casual and formal wear tree, when I can make nice clothes for the female characters. They all want nicer, or skimpier things that I can make so far (but at least they don't have to be black!).

I'm actually really surprised that people are saying color is unimportant. This has certainly not been my experience. I did 2 boxes of tailoring right off the bat, then went up the casual line. Even with those extra colors that I got from those two boxes of tailoring, colors have been a buggo-boo for me for a long time now.If a customer asks meforfor a shirt that matches their pants or vice-versa, I'm more often then not, unable to do it. Andif a customer asks for a color that is not black or white, it is almost a given to be either bright red, bright blue, or orangenone of whichI could not do with tailoring 2. Almost every customoutfit I made, I found myself apologizing somewhat for the color. I finally got to tailoring 3 last week, and now for the first time I have a nice bright red and nice bright blue and these have become two of my color stapels ever since, but I still feel somewhat color deficiant (no yellow, and my black still isn't near as dark as most customers request). Yes, black still is #1, and white may even be #2, but in my experience color has mattered a lot (maybe people in casualwear tend to like more colorful clothing than fieldwear? dunno). Put a nice tailoring 3 red bustier on the bazar next to the closest approximation to red you can do at level 0 and I guarantee you the level 3 one gets bought first.

Are there tailors out there who are actually "functional" with no tailoring? *shiver* I couldn't even imagine it.

Now questions: what tailoring level does "black" get blacker? what tailoring level do we get yellow? Does the white get any whiter for stuff like suncatchers?

The only way to get your black 'blacker' is to play around with the gamma settings ... same with white ... *sighs*.

And you -never- get a proper yellow. At Master you can make a fine selection of bright sand/gold shades right through to deep orange, but no bright yellow. The approximations to it are a greenish-lemon pastel and the gold of the range I just mentioned.

The leather palettes have types of yellow (fairly ugly types of yellow) and the Dress Robe has yellows, but then that has a palette all to itself ... not that people buy it, whatever shade you make it in.

Me, I'm not fussed about yellow.
I really, REALLY hate yellow.
I was far happier at the fact that you get some absolutely delicious purples at Master ... heh.

Hmm, interested, because several customers have complained that my black is kinda "light charcoal" as compared to a "pitch black" they got from a master. Also one woman came in with a top she wanted me to match and it appeared to be a real nice dark black that I could not approximate. oh well. As far as yellow, well, the only time I got asked for a yellow was a fellow wanting to approximate a Han Solo outfit. Han Solo apparently (haven't watched the early movies in a while) had a blue pants with yellow stripe arrangement. I gave him the closest thing to yellow I could, and he didn't complain (hehe, I was expecting him to), but that color really wasn't very close to yellow at all.

I think some things can get "black black" like the uniform boots. One skin is the boot color and the other is the highlights/sole color. If you use black for both skins it looks a very deep black. But if you use black for the boot color and a lighter black for the sole it bleaches out the overall boot to a lighter black color. Does that make sense?

It does, but on the examine screen black uniform boots look 'light' black to me, and it's often that people ask me for black ones when there is already a pair on sale...

Remember that tailoring tier also includes the # and chance of making sockets....not that that really matters, but i been getting lots of requests for socketed items lately, and once i hit colors3 they really starting socketting things.

As a novice tailor they only things I really sold with consistency was backpacks and jewelry (dancers love it),but the best items for grinding are found in the field wear tier....catridge belts, grenadiers belts, and some of the non-component shirts...

Just study your target audience....if its dancers, go with formal wear....fighters, field wear....etc.

and yeah black is all you really need, black, white, green on occasion, and red which is master lvl
