I have become a 0200 tailor now and am thinking about a shop. Might as well get it set up while i'm grinding. But along with tailor I dont know what Profession to go with. I was thinking about Comando but then thought I must need Hiring 4 under the merchent skill so that I can display my wonderful creations... What should i do? Become a 4444 Tailor/0040 Merchent/0040 Comando? then use what skill points i have left into comando? Or should a pick out a different Profession? Plz post your Ideas on my conflict.

You will not make a good fighter if you have a crafting profession.

Actually, you can. I fight just fine as a TKA and Tailor. That leaves room to master Artisan, too, Or Brawler, or some Medic. Or A lot of Merchant.

Image Designer and Tailor go together for pretty obvious reasons. My template that I plan on making with my new character is going to be a master ID, Tailor and almost master medic. Lets me max out the mind pool and still be somewhat, abstractly involved in combat/pvp. Just an idea.

I actually tried that template and I ended up swapping almost-master medic for master entertainer with a bit of music. I foudn, and you may not find this, that it's almost impossible for a medic to keep up with a party, but a lot more reasonable for a CM or Doc. You have to be practically within leg-humping distance to heal anyone, and you pretty much have to heal at every interval when you can again. And it causes a lot of frustration because, quite honestly, there is so little tactic-ing in combat that people forget the EQ/DAOC rules: Don't run off or the medic can't heal you, don't run when you're being attacked, and... peel the frickin thing off the medic so he can heal you. After one disastrous hunting party where the fighter types with massive hill-climbing bonuses started sprinting at the enemy, and were all incapped by the time I got to the top of the hill, and then started giving me instructions on whom to heal (as if I couldn't see people dead....).
No thanks. Even in parties with the best intentions, mobs run off, and so do pets. I played a cleric for a yearin daoc and that was fuuun. This was just frustrating because I couldn't keep up with heals even remotely.

But that's the great thing - try it, and see how you like it. You can always swap skills out.

Currently I am a Master Artisan, Master Tailor, soon to be Master Merchant, and pistoleer 0-0-2-0. When I finish Merchant I will have a few skill points left for at least one more skill in Pistol. Though I plan to surrender most of my merchant skills after gaining master.

I doubt you'll be able to get Commando. Commando requires Master Marksman and 4/0/0/0 in Brawler. Merchant and Tailor together need 0/4/4/0. If you plan on Mastering Tailor, and getting 0/0/4/0 in Merchant, you might have a hard time. Also, 3/0/0/0 in Merchant allows you to register your vendor on the planetary map. So essentially you'd have an entire half of Artisan, Marksman in the entirety, one-fourth brawler, entire tailor, one-fourth or more of merchant. You won't have much room for commando.

I'm also a Pistoleer 0-2-4-2 and plan on mastering it someday. I've taken down a tusken warlord by myself (ok, so I had to clone once and go back to finish him...)

I started out trying Marksman/Medic and then Master Tailor/Master Merchant, but that didn't work out so well. It became downright worthless after the non-CH pet nerf (as pets became worthless all together), so I dropped that and ended up Master Tailor/Master Merchant/Master Architect, which seems to work fairy well. Luckily, all of my shops are in places without a lot of aggro, so I should be okay.

I just bought another account and started a second character so that I could do the combat I wanted as well as maintain the crafting that I wanted to do.

For a while i was master tailor, merchant 3-0-0-0, markman 0-4-0-0, novice scout, and dancer 1-0-4-0. I had to drop dancer and scout for my blue box of death, and now i am doing armorsmith, so i am not sure how it will end up after i give up on the boxes.

Im master tailor, master artisan, carbineer, near master merchant and of course a bit of marksman... The skillpoints wont be enough for both master merchan and master carbineer, so ill drop the merchant skills I wont need as soon as Im master. Just get Hiring 4, make a nice uniform and then drop the whole hiring tree.
