I was thinking the other day that I want to take up armorsmith again. I don't really enjoy making the best, most "uber" composite armor, I just enjoyed making fashion armor that goes well with our clothing lines. But, tonight I was sitting here thinking...duh, what is the point of that now with the CU coming up where people are going to have to be specially certified to wear certain armor. No more dressing up and making an ensemble with tailored outfits and maybe 2-4 armor pieces on the arms (chitin being especially nice), to "make" the outfit.
This bothers me more than anything now that we'll be relegated to what can only be the dev's pushing all of us into more combat roles.
Anyway, just my beef for the day. I don't want to see the ability to use some armor as a fashion statment, rather than just combat reasons, go away.

There may be an easy fix for this. Only allow the armor's resistences to be in effect if you are certified to use the armor. Right now I can arm a weapon even if I am not certified, but I do so with significant reduction is benefits.

I agree with you - this kind of sucks. Even though we have a lot of items, some are just sooo similar, I never make them (or so ugly)
I am a complete armor newb... been wearing Mabari forever, and just when I go out hide harvesting.
Well, I admired a set of really nice looking armor on the guild AS, and she told me it was padded and did I want a set. She made me a set in my signature colors of white and purple ... and I cannot wear it all at the same time
I am going to try to get it sliced to a lower encumbrance (I think that was what she said).
But if I cannot - I will either have a very nice armor display in my house, or maybe I can wear one or two pieces at a time. Glad she didnt charge me for it, even tho I was perfectly happy to pay her.
hmm - enuf rambling - sorry, bored at work.

I am in the same boat here I make a lot of fashion armor to enhance the "look" of uniforms we make... I'll just have to wait and see how/if I can keep it up.

I am hoping that it will be set up so that if you wear armor that you are not certified for that it will reduce your combat ability to the point where it is useless. That way it could still be used for fashion (I still think we need our own full palette boots though) and us people who so a lot of surveying and mining on the scary planets have a chance without dying all the time.

yup we sorely do.
Ijust sent in yet another order to an Armorsmith for decorative Padded Armor boots.
Because they look best with Extremely Revealing Skirts.
Debated taking up AS just for the abilty to make these,
but dangit I refuse to become a crackerjack,
I Tailor, I will order what I cannot make from other players.
That is their profession to have, not mine.

QFE!
It would be so nice to not have to bug my favorite armorsmith everytime i need a new pair of boots to make me padded armor boots so i can actually have *gasp* color on my feet!
unfortunately the way the published notes for the CU sound they are making the certifications for WEARING not just for "viability"... i think they did that to do away with things like novice brawlers using speed sliced VK's to level up faster even though they aren't certed for the VK's. Of course i'm noticing on the dancer forums alot of IRATE entertainers who spend lots of money on expensive lances and things to dance with who won't be able to equip them anymore. I guess right now we just wait and see what happens. Patience... heh.. yeah I"m really good at that LOL
*prays and prays and prays to the maker for one pair of full pallette boots*

I understand that point, however, I wanted to be unlimited in my ability to make certian looks... and that often includes armor... as it stands I can make any armor except composite to enhance the uniform of a player, most often I make it specifically with very low HAM costs as to be used as a uniform peice, I am serious about it. I love being a tailor, I just wanted the ability to fully expand on what I can do... now it looks like that may no longer be feasable
