Heh, gettin' a bit heated over there, ain't it? Yeesh, you'd think you asked them to gnaw off their arms and legs or somethin'!
Customer: I need boots. In black.
Tailor: /afk (insert your favorite oh so nice afk message here) *is thinking* "Yah, and so what's new? Black boots yeah yeah. I'm stuffin' the vendor - lemmie alone for one danged afternoon! Gah!"
Customer: You coming?
Tailor: /afk *What the...? Coming where?*
Customer: Hello? I'm on Dant. I need those boots delivered.
Tailor: /afk *Great googly moogly. It's a dire emergency, he needs boots NOW! You betcha hon. I'll walk away from a shop full of customers, run across Tat with zero terrain negotiation, hop a ship to ummm how do I get to Dant from here again? Then run across Dant to where-EVAH the heck you are with my zero combat skills and... personally and graciously hand deliver them thar emergency boots to ya. Yeppers. I am soooo there.*
Customer: Is 500 credits okay for that? Are you coming? Helloooooo!?!?
Tailor: /cry
I signed/posted a big long crappy reply to that post.
It's like I said there. I'm sick of having to deal with rude people. I'm also quite sick of hiding in my crafting station so that people don't see me. I forgot that one. People seem to find that comical.
I really hope that there is some sort of positive reaction to that post though I can tell a lot of people don't like the idea, probably because it would just wreck their life if their favorite crafters weren't at their mercy 24/7.Mannn I'm cynical and critical today I better shut up fast. Both of those together can get dangerous for me =P
I am working on a post for that thread... however, I am a bit frightened that most of the people who read it, who should read it, will have trouble comprehending more than simple sentences.
Bah, it will be fun to take my aggression out on some of those demanding combatants. Get your popcorn ready and buckle in, it might be a bumpy ride.
(Note: I learned how to debate on groups in Usenet, while it is in poor taste to bash the poster and not the idea, it sure is fun to bash the idea and subtly throw in insults to the poster, and entertaining as well. I won't get it up til much later tonight or tomorrow, but it's looking to be a very condescending diatrabe without actually being condescending.)
Customer: "hello?"
me: " AFK: Please email any orders, no orders will be filled unless emailed...currently restocking vendors. Thanks"
Customer: "I need a flesh toned exotic leotard"
Me: "afk message"
Customer: "ill be over in a few minutes to pick it up"
Me: "afk message" (thinking great now i have to hide in my tiny storage house until they leave my shop)
Me: (stops crafting, goes next door, watches radar...sees blue dot approach shop)
Customer: "wheres the leotard?? you knew i was coming out here to pick it up!!"
Me: "AFK message" (thinking when did i ever say i was making it for this person??...oh well..count to 10)
Customer: "i guess ill be going else where for it now...thanks for nothin."
Me: /ban person from store add /ignore person.
Im all for the /anon feature being added. How many want to deal with pushy customers on a daily basis?...afk just doesnt work to deter them from being rude and impatient.
It really would be nice if the /anon command actually worked to hide your online status before you're made visible -- that would solve your problem completely. But that not being the case, my only advice is: let these folks know that you are not available at present to fill their orders. And if they insist, tell them that sure, you'll fill their order since they need it instantly, but for an inflated price.
And by 'inflated', I mean starting at 10k for novice items... *grins* After all, if what they want is their own personal, readily-available tailor, then surely they're willing to pay well for the privelege.

*Agreed*
Alot of the people that complained to your post don't understand what life is like to be a crafter, let alone a tailor. Combatant's that don't craft in this game will NEVER comprehend the supply & demand that we endure everyday in order to keep them happy. Yes, even though we may be somewhat succesful, a tailors job is NEVER, EVER done.
It takes alot to get to where we want and to keep it going in order to survive our profession. Whether it is taking our time to: survey for sweet resource spots, tending to our harvesters, making sure our factories are working and producing those bundles of crates, keeping our shops looking nice and updated, re-stocking our vendors, going through the e-mails and working on the custom orders, and *sigh* just hanging out in-game with our friends and taking the time to...maybe play dress-up on ourselves every once in awhile...lol - ALL of this takes time!
My "Master Tailor" tag did not stay up too long. I show-cased it for only a few days after I mastered, then I realized that was unwise
After mastering and turning off that title I couldn't wait to have, I had to make myself unsearchable, and also /anon. And even then, after you go through all of this you still need to put up an AFK message? Everything that you try to do to give yourself some peace matters not. People will still spam you before you load in, customers will give your name to friends, etc. And if you are not in your shop, they will hunt you down - lol, unless you are like: Karmalina and hide in your crafting station... (funny stuff - makes note to remember to do that one next time) ...they will still find you!
I would love to have a feature that would protect my privacy. I think it would keep us sane.
Breigh, your idea is brilliant, and I hope that it gets some serious recognition
*Salute*
If they got credits to burn, they can get you
I know this may sound a bit over the top but after release i think i was about the 3rd person to reach master tailor, i couldnt log on without getting spammed with 16 tells each time, i couldnt do anything without being spammed for that matter. I had no time to myself at all. My shop was constantly full of people for the most part and I had to put down a small tat to hide in to craft in peace, It drove me so mad that it actually made me ill irl. I have NEVER experienced ANYTHING like that in a GAME before, it kinda freaked me out that a game could lead to more stress than a real life job, so much so that i quit for 4 months. I did return....sheepishly because of boredom and eq didnt cut it anymore, and now i have found the ability to ignore it until I WANT to talk with customers and deal with orders. I think it had alot to do with the 1 toon per server and your reputation was at stake, plus running the risks of a slating on the forums that i tried so hard to keep everyone happy but myslef.
So would i like to see an ANON feature...HELL YES!
