Thread: Shouldn't It Be Easy To Add New Clothes?

I'm not a tailor or anything and I understand I may be way out of my depth here, but how hard would it be to add new clothes for you tailors? I mean wouldn't there be an infinite number of clothes out there. Couldn't someone go to Skywalker Ranch or something or wherever the old wardrobe is kept and just gather some ideas for new clothing?

Ideas for new clothes aren't the problem. We want new clothes and have lots of ideas for outfits they could put in game. There are already lots of clothes that you see on NPCs that we can't make.

But actually programming in the new schematics in takes time, and they have to split all their time between lots of different professions. The tailors have just not been a priority since release. It's understandable, but I'm definately starting to get impatient.

Well, I seem to remember a post from the art team a while back..basicly they said they wanted work....

They said they had completed most of the artwork, planned ones too..like buildings....

So.....my guess is, they are saving things for expansions and later patches, so they can come out and say "Lookie here fellas, we gave you a new hat!! Oh and this here new skirt!"....Exept that its been in the database since launch

Here's what has to happen:

One of the devs will fire up the 3d programming tool they use to create the objects in the game. The characters animate based on how these are designed. You have someone yawn, and the computer activates the yawn animation.

Let's take a hat. Each person has the same head size, but some races have slightly different SHAPED heads, so this has to be designed for each race. I suspect humans and zabraks are oneunified race, though. You may notice that your hair always changes when you put a hat on. Twi'leks have their lekku adjusted as well. Different hats have different looks. It's dependant on the programmer that made that hat, or that piece of clothes.

The hat has to be designed first to fit the head, and then to look good overall. The right shapes, colours, textures, movement. This takes a long time to do. 3d modelling is not quick and easy. It's brutally time-consumming, and very difficult to conceptualize unless you've been doing it for a good while.

Once they have formed the hat, now they have to apply it to the character mesh. The hathas tomove and bob along for each walk and run and tumble movement of the character. There are emotes as well, that cause the head to move. The hat has to look good for every action the character might perform.

Once the developer has what he believes is an acceptable model, then it gets tested on the internal test machines that we never see. Overall it's alot of work to build new hats. Once you move away from hats, and start into shirts.... well now you have twisting and flexing movements for the cloth to be added. A hat can be static and rigid, but other clothes have to be more organic, able to flow like real fabrics. They also have to fit body shape now. Fatter, thinner, taller, shorter, more/less muscle, etc.

I believe there may also be a problem with schematic limits - that's why armorsmith/tailors were bugged (I think that may have gotten fixed). In an open system not class defined - you not only have to account for the possible maximum in a profession - but what is also possible from other professions.

I'm not sure this has been addressed or not, but would have to be before many new schematics were added.

Personally - I'd be happy if they finished the sort on what we already have. I have a wookiee vendor for wookiee only items simply because that sort doesn't work properly. Skirts still come up under misc., etc.
