Thread: How do I get resources if I'm broke?

I literally have 300 credits to my name, 1 Wind Generator, 1 Personal Chemical Harvestor, and am halfway to Novice Tailor, working my way towards Master.

If only MacGyver was here, sigh...

If you're actually interested in playing as a tailor then definately craft and sell on the bazaar. When I list gloves I always sell the link steel reinforced ones, but the leather gloves you can make have a very similar look. You're on my server, and let me tell ya, any gloves I list in Theed disappear within hours. Boots seem to go pretty quickly, and also black shirts.

Mostly now I only use the bazaar to sell cloaks, rings, and other things I charge 3k for. But I still like to try out some of the lower level things I used to sell sometimes, just to see how they do. If you stick to pants, shirts, shoes, and gloves you can sell almost any of the styles as long as they're black (or white) and relatively cheap. It's probably not as good an income as you get from buffs, but at least you'll be getting a little xp at the same time.

no no no. i fyou need quick cash to buy resourses, selling artisian level stuff is no good. this is what you do. survey around untill you find a nice 70%+ spot of something. go to a artisian terminal, and find 2 misions for that stuff you just found. ride/drive/ walk (UCK) back to your WP and hit the survey button, BLing instant 3K or so credits. you can do this all day long.

hehe I hear you donnah ! Back in the day ! I aspired up the surveying ranks rather quickly hauling minerals out of the ground by hand and selling them on the Mos Espa Bazaar......200units of Chemical for 1000c hehe

Bit of a newbie money maker it was... since there was not alot of Minerals people would pay anything !! I think I started one of the first resource businesses in the game fresh out of day 1 ! Quickly buying a house and setting the interior up as an office where customers can come meet me and we can sit down and discuss business !! ahhh the days ... I'm still continuing with the resource business but not on a high a scale as others !! =)

Oh resources when your broke ? I'm going to be the stern dad and say "I had nothing when I was your age, so go out and harvest them all by hand" hehe get dirty !

Heh, kids these days, with your harvesters! Back when some of us started out as crafters, on day one, there was no such thing as harvesters (at least until someone finally made one). Everyone on the server was fresh off the space station with the clothes on their backs, a crappy CDEF, and a handful of melons. Yep, back then we got more than one melon! It was a simpler time.

We artisans got to work quickly. We had a whole server of people furiously doing missions only to find that there wasn't much to buy yet. There were no resources for sale, and even if there had been none of us had any money. So we sampled by hand! We dug in the dirt and found metal to make shiny new chemical survey tools. And those of us who already knew we were going for tailor, we sampled some fiberplast and made ourselves non-noob clothes. And then we made artisan level clothes and sold them on the bazaar (cos there weren't any vendors back then either).

Of course that was back before mounts and fancy vehicles. In those days we had to run all the way to Wayfar! Uphill! Both ways! With no Terrain Negotiation! In the snow! (okay, maybe not in the snow)

...

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

But for practical advice, you can sample enough by hand to make any of the artisan level clothes. And many of them you can easily sell on the bazaar. Make staple-type items, shirts, pants, gloves, and boots. The most popular colors that you'll have access to now are black, white, and grey. People are still shopping through the bazaar and many high level tailors either don't sell through the bazzar anymore or only list more expensive items like cloaks. If you're in a populated city, you should be able to sell black gloves and boots within a day. I try and list some from time to time just because those categories seem so neglected, and they are still selling just as fast as they ever were. I'd imagine even something as simple and easy to make as Casual Shoes will go pretty well on the bazzar, I still sell plenty of those through my vendor. That should make you enough money to keep you going.

But if you're a holo tailor, you may not actually be interested in making and selling actual clothes. So you could just take breaks to run missions for money like everyone else does. You could do survey missions from an artisan terminal so then you can be getting money from a mission and find good resources to sample at the same time.

Crafting professions aren't easy, especially if you're just getting started. And without a large amount of money saved up grinding is hard to afford. I guess if holo grinding is doing anything good for the game, it's teaching people respect for the types of professions they'd never have chosen on their own.

Well, I am a bit of both.

I always wanted to try the Tailor profession (I started one on Eclipse and got half way to Master) and my Holocron indeed told me to master Tailor (Ahh the irony). I have been sampling as much as I can (though I just made Survey III right now). I set up my Wind Generator on a 58% spot and put enough maintenence in for 6 days.

So I guess until those 6 days, its sample all the Fiberplast I can (currently sampling on a 80% spot).

What I intend to do is, run the Wind Generator for those 6 days, and get enough power for at least 1 Chemical Harvestor and 1 Mineral Harvestor. I can usually get some money (I'm also a Master Musician, so charging for buffs helps me) to cover the maintenence.

But RIGHT NOW I am soley concentrated on getting to Novice Tailor. I know how to go from there, its just this tiny grind to it.

I hope that kinda gives an idea of what I'm doing and where I'm at.

Well I think I'll be doing fine now. I've made Novice Tailor and am getting along pretty good.

Thanks to a great new Survey Macro I found, I can pull in 5K+ Resources a day. At this rate, it shouldn't take me more than a month to Master Tailor, which isn't that bad.

I KNOW I was very very lucky. I had a great sponsor in my guild who basically gave me enough "starter" cash to buy the power gens and harvies to getgoing until I could start selling. Then once the profits kicked in I paid him back. Master Tailor in 3 weeks. (Ouch my fingers hurt!)

I love my job now as I can make silly amounts of cash on bio-wear. (I sponsored a BE from who I buy at a good price everything he makes)

Starting out on your own is hard, hard graft. I thank the good people in my guild for the "leg up"
