Hope that helps.
If you actually take your time at it you learn much more while you're advancing instead of being clueless once you get to master. It's slower, but a lot more fun than clicking or hitting your macro key over and over. It did take me months to master because I did no grinding at all (instead of the relatively popular method of combining a little grinding in your normal sales crafting).
It was also a much larger feeling of accomplishment (at least to me) to slowly work your way up the ranks. I'm really proud of reaching master, and this may sound a little snobby (and no offense at all to anyone who grinded, I'm just not able to do that because of carpal tunnel) but I feel like it was a lot more special to me because I earned it the hard way instead of the quick and easy "dark side" path.
And I can't tell you how many times I was in-game and answering questions from fresh new "master" tailors that knew next to nothing about the profession.
I ground for no more than an hour a night for about two months so i didn't go insane clicking on thsoe darn resources.
I wasn't very dedicated to it though so it took me a little longer than some.
Of course some people use a third party program, but I think they should be banned forevor. Unfortunalty SOE doesn't seam to care as most of the biggest exploiters are still out there with the master tailor and armorsmith skills they got through cheating.
Master is so nice though. I would never want to be anything but master again unless they change the color rules. I haed tailor until I got to master, but I knew it would rock once I got there. It was my only motivation through all those hours of grinding.
If you do not grind a little now and then you will never make it to master though. And you will really not learn much until you get to master anyway as you do not have the clothes available to learn about them.
I remember the very first thing I crafted when I became master: Grand Ball Gown. I wanted to strut in my own clothes. So I pulled out my craft tool and selected this new and wonderful schematic. My eyes lit up when I saw the palette. COLOUR! It was like going from black and white to vivid, breathtaking colour. ORANGE! Bright PURPLES! YELLOW!!!! Of course.... the Red that I'd been waiting for. *sigh*
I went slowly, doing skillsthat I wanted to learn. I left Field Wear til last, because I didn't want to do field wear. So I never did the cartridge belt grind. I did it all by hand, and normal effort until I got to Field wear 2 and decided to make the big push and sit down to grind. I got out 3 kits and clicked my fingers raw trying to get to master. getting 4344 was like the carrot bumping your nose. I went full speed.
I don't like grinding, and I can see that it is a way to get to the end faster, but I don't think it got me there better. We need to understand our profession all the way up, spending time learning the new things that become available at every skill box.
