Thread: Possible to still be a good tailor without making BE items?
To be honest I got into tailoring for the fashion. I like to make people look good.. this BE thing has been a huge pain in my ass, simply because I have no interest in messing around with it or selling these clothing additions.
I love tailoring but I'm so sick of people asking me can you make this with + bleed or + whatever.
Maybe it's that it confuses me and I have no idea HOW to do it but Idon't want to get into this BE sutff -at all-
Am I the only one who feels this way?
I'd rather not fiddle around with the BE enhanced clothing either. Partly due to not understanding how it works, stacks or not and all that, but also because of the hassles and costs to acquire the tissues. I may dabble at it on the side and try to get it figured out, but I am not going to advertise that I make this stuff. Not until I can answer customer questions about it with at least a modicum of certainty.
Maybe after prices settle down. Maybe after the rest of the bugs are worked out of it. Maybe after my friend who is going for BE finally gets through working her way through Scout...
Maybe not. There will be plenty of Tailors out there making enhanced clothing. Very expensive clothing. I think, from a role play viewpoint and a casual gamer situation, that I will just continue to enjoy being the Happy trippy hippy Tailor I've been since launch day. I only *just* made Master Tailor this weekend (too busy running around oohing and aaahing everywhere and everything to grind) and I am still having too much fun just playing with my new colors and schematics to worry my poor frazzled mind over what tissue does what in what item and yada yada yada.
No. Someone else can fiddle-faddle with tissues. I don't want or need the extra headaches.
I'd love to do BE clothing but cannot find a BE for the tissues. and the demand is so high, I just cannot keep up since I have no BE to help me.

I have orders in with 3 BE's, still waiting to be filled, but honestly I'm not getting my hopes too high about the whole thing. I keep hearing more and more mixed results from people testing the tissues, and it's not looking good. I don't remember if the post was here or on the BE board that tested mask scent and found it was doing nothing to extend the time mask lasts, but these kinds of things have me wary of encouraging people to buy enhancements. That combined with the stacking no longer working isn't making the whole thing very appealing to me.
I'm currently gearing down to temporary close up shop so I can go out of town soon. I quit putting my vendors on the map after the patch and quit restocking after the weekend. I'm still doing a ton of business, and the majority of it is for non-enhanced items. I'm not looking forward to the restock when I open things back up to normal, but if that can be any indicator for you, I don't think you'd have much trouble maintaining a non-enhanced business at all.
For me so far, BE clothing requests only make up 1/3 of my requrests. And most of the people who were asking for the tissues weren't the kinds of people who were buying my clothes before. So honestly, the BE tissue thing wasn't perceptibly costing me any business or money, it just meant turning down people I would mostly never have heard from anyway. If you don't want to mess with it, don't. The economic impact will be minimal.
If people pester you, you could always do what a friend of mine does. He tells people, "Sure. But I don't keep them in stock. You bring me the bioengineered tissues and I'll incorporate them into a piece of clothing for you." Let them do the hard work of tracking down the tissues and haggling with the Bio Engineers.
As for finding the tissues, those of you who follow these boards a lot know that I spent an entire week complaining about the prices of these tissues. But that whole week, I was also keeping an eye out for a specific list of my friends, three of them in particular, who are "hyper-connectors." I knew that one of them would know a BE who was still eager to sell, and willing to cut deals on price. Unsurprisingly, it ended up being a fellow Rorian - there's just something about being on Rori that squashes greed like a bug. So I've got all the novice, tissue 1, and tissue 2 subcomponents I've asked for, at 500 credits per.
Today on the Kettemoor forum, a master BE offered all tissues at 500 credits per. I don't think the conditions of scarcity and high price are going to last much longer.
As for using them, check my web site (address in signature, below), because I covered most of the details on the main page. What you end up doing is using these tissues to make yet more cloth or crates of cloth, and using that cloth instead of generic cloth in the final item. It adds yet more crates to the inventory in your backpack, but it's no big deal. I've only founda few caveats and bugs, all easily understood:
Tissues go into either Synthetic Cloth or Reinforced Fiber Panels, never both.
Stacking multiple tissues just wastes the extra tissues. (Sometimes there's no choice, though. The only jacket that uses RFPs requires two factory-identical ones, so if you want an enhanced RFP jacket, that's the one you're going to have to make.)
If you still have leftover crates of Synthetic Cloth that were made prior to the October 8th patch, don't use them with enhanced Reinforced Fiber Panels or they'll wipe out the tissue bonuses.
See? No big deal, either way.
I only do field wears, before BE tissues I was selling 20-30k credits per week of Field wear. Now in my first week of BE enhanced Field Wear I'm past the 200k credits sales ( will it last ??). So speaks for itself, for me BE means everything I needed, but I have a good friend of mine suppling me the Tissues, that helps alot.
Get in good terms with some BEs, get them what they need to make the tissues, give them clothing you made with their tissues and some tip or simply buy it from them. But again, if you don't want to mess with that stuff, just do not, everyone needs clothing, enhanced or not.

Well get crated Tissues and make crated RFP out of it, craft a duster with it add synth clothing and boom, you get a duster with 2 sets of stats easily selling for 40k+ if stats are good. Sure it eats double RFP tissues but heck, rewards are great.
Thanks for your responses everyone, I feel much better now.
As it is I have plenty of business and I am definately not hurting for cash. I have a bit of spare time which I enjoy and like to take a breather now and then. I just sort of felt bad sending people away like I wasn't doing my "duty" as a tailor or something. I got into it totally for the fashion and that's what I'll continue to do it for..
I will try to keep a list of tailors on my server who do keep these items stocked so I can at least help by pointing people in the right direction. ![]()
I see more and more requests coming in for BE enhanced tailored clothing. The problem being...
1. It is difficult to find a BE to acquire the components
2. Clothing that will take BE components are minimal.
I end up having to tell anyone who wants clothing with BE enhancements in them that they need to bring me the components then we can work on an outfit for them. I do not know what else to do. Sometimes people come back with it to be done, most times they dont.

I've also decided to ignore the BE clothing for now.
I experimented a bit to get the hang of it but as a casual player, I barely had time to maintain my vendors with a wide selection of clothing as it was ... let alone spending time to chasing down a BE for quality tissues.
So my attitude is like someone else's ... if they have the tissues, I will weave into an appropriate item; otherwise it is standard clothing for me.
