Tailor Archive
Thread: I wanted to share my latest Gamer Girl column with my fellow tailors :)
It's titled: "Shop Kweestyle*: Lifetime Guarantee" and talks about the lack of clothing decay, the possible implementation of decay on test, the torture of dealing with vendors, and my woes as a non-master-tailor. Hope those of you that read it enjoy
You can get to it by clicking on the "Gamer Girl" link in my signature.
Here is a little excerpt:
Ihave mixed feelings about the incap/death-decay way of doing things, and would prefer to have usage based decay for clothing and other items. I worry that sales to combat types will decrease as they won’t want to be bothered with having to insure and/or replace/repair clothing. Any clothes they do own will probably be left in a house or security deposit box. Already threads abound with combat types proclaiming that they are prepared to fight in their skivvies. Another big issue is that many of a tailor’s best clients are entertainers or artisans who get incapped once in a blue moon. I have had a series of events playing out in my mind over and over this weekend. A what-might-be if incapacitation/death-decay were to go live…

Sigh.
Kwee, you're hardly the first person to be excited by the idea that (some time around, or maybe even after Thanksgiving) the vendor timeout will go to 30 days from 7. Which tells me that you, like everybody else (including GreenMarine), have failed to think this through. Why? Because GreenMarine did not say anything about increasing the amout of time that stuff stays in the Stockroom before evaporating, which will still be two days.
Right now, on average, one seventh of your unsold merchandise expires every day. Starting in December, it'll be one thirtieth. Yes, that's 75% less email spam. But if you go away for more than two days, it still means lost merchandise.
Because of the hurricane, you presumably lost about five sevenths, or maybe six sevenths, of your stock. If this change had been in effect, you still would have lost one sixth of your stock, or maybe one fifth. Still sound like a good idea?
And of course, you'll still have to stop by your vendor every day, catch the stuff that fell into the stockroom, and reprice it. One fourth as much stuff, but still every day.
God, it takes remarkably little to make some of you happy.
Oh, and I started out singing from the same hymnal you're singing from on grinding.
Then they nerfed usage XP on clothing to nearly nothing. Then, after that, they made it easier and more profitable to grind than it was even before.
I took the hint. I power-ground my way through my last seven skill boxes. Took me maybe ten hours, probably less. By the end of that time I hated tailoring with a fiery passion, so I don't blame you for not wanting to do it.
But at your current rate of disillusionment and despair, I predict that you'll do the same thing some time in the next week or two.

Brad, it takes remarkably little to make you grumpy! The reason things disappear from the stockroom after 72 hours is that people were using them for storage. The fix punishes those of us that don't when we can't make it back , but in this case I can see why the fix is more important than the yucky consequences. Unfortunately, when the database suffers we all suffer. Remember the temporary house storage nerf, blech! Losing most of my stock during the hurricane was disappointing, but not emotionally crushing
I'm really still recovering.
While I said that my article was a rant, it was a lighthearted rant. While some ofthe aspects of tailoring feel like work,I'mstill having fun with the profession. But you can't build a column talking about what's right and perfect and good
Who wants toread that ![]()
I know that for me, it would sap the fun if I were to powergrind to master tailor in under a week, but as I said in the column, every box I powergrind more. My gaming style tends to be casual, and it greatly extends the longevity of a game for me.

Why so condescending? Unless I misunderstand the change, there are people for whom this is good news, I'm one. I stock my vendor with a bunch of items all at once, then when they go belly-up I return to the vendor and re-list those items plus whatever i want to add. Now I will be visiting my vendor less often. Still within 2 days of the spam emails, but less often nonetheless. Is that so difficult to understand? Perhaps those people who list items every day don't receive a benefit, but don't act like the people who are excited about the change are simpletons just because they don't play the way you do.
