I have looked all over this forum and I can't find a post anywhere that tells me what sockets are for. I suppose everyone except me does know. So please could someone enlighten me on this. Thanks.

Think of a socket as an empty space to which a skill tape attachment can be added, after the clothing item has been made. Each item will detail how many sockets it has,

Skill tape attachments are found thru out the game as loot and can add a bonus to a specific skill, ie +1 pistol aiming adds a bonus of +1 to your pistol aiming skill,,,
