I have like 6 heavy duty leathers that have no serial numbers. Do these count as identical?

Hmmm I don't know. I haven't really been following the Krayt-tissue-exploit dealie, but apparently if you use an unserialed tissue in a schematic, that's an exploit, bleh. I could ask CSRDavidF and he'll probably tell me "Hey, doofy, look in the knowledge base" - which I honestly find incomprehenisble.

So the short answer is - don't use them yet. I'll poke around the KB and see what I can find out about how to deal with those, or irritate CSRs in the corre forum if that fails. With all the "exploit" hypersensitivity lately, you don't want to run afoul of the law.

The looted schematic backpacks take singles, don't they? You'd be safe using 'em there, then.

The issue is that these leathers are exploitable if you make a schematic from them... anyhoo, there was some hubbub about krayt tissues and whatnot a while back, which I totally paid no attention to, but remember vaguely, so I want to check it out before I say yea or nay.

Well it's not making a schematic that's the exploit. If you made a schematic to just use the unserialized leather then that would be fine. It's using other leather with the schematic to make the items that's the exploit. Basicially it's an exploit to get around the limited use schematics, 30 backpacks from 1 schematic is the most you could make, legally.

Okay, here's the deal:

Nonserialed components are supposed to act like similar and not identical pieces.

  • This means you can use them in an item that requires one component.

  • You may not use them in an item that requires 2 identical components.

  • You may not use them to make a manufacturing schematic.

  • If the game allows you to use them as if they were identical serialed, then it's an exploit.

So from what I hear it's okay to use them in "singles" but to use them as "multiples" is exploitative. I'm asking for clarification right now (you know "dev talk"), but it seems to make sense that simply using them as singles would not be exploitative in any way.

I have those clasps with no serial numbers. Unfortunately the ones with serial numbers dont seem to be dropping anymore. This will make it impossible to make the schematics. The items dont even show up as options in the schematics. Does this mean that it is useless to get these drops any more and the schematics are obsolete?

That's a problem. I wonder if anyone else is having similar issues?

I know the devs are aware of the non-serialed component issue, but I wonder if this problem has escalated to the point that people are no longer getting serialed items period. The answer I was given presumed that the non-serialed items were pretty much an anomaly and that in general you should be getting serialed components.

Any data on this would be appreciated and I'll report back to them if this is the case. In the meantime I'll poke around and see if others are having trouble finding serialed components.

I'm too much of a doofus to exploit.. I always thought they would only work as singles. I still have one. Guess I best not go experimenting now. LOL.

The end result of the non-serial Krayt tissue issue, as I remember it, was an announcement to destroy all such items. Although I'd just stash them and not touch them until you get confirmation one way or the other…as long as you don't use them you can't be exploiting, right?

hmm serial ones might not be dropping but I don't know really as I don't do combat but I have seen two batches of non-serial leather on the bazaar just last night.
