Thread: How long do you hold completed orders?

Just looking for a general rule of thumb here. I have a few regulars who are notorious for letting things sit for weeks, but always pick them up eventually. Right now, though, I have two smallish orders that have been sitting for a week, and haven't seen or heard from the people (non-regulars) who ordered them, despite mailing a reminder. I'm a firm believer in Murphy's Law, so I'm pretty much convinced that if I throw them on the vendor, I'll get a tell or mail from whoever ordered them within 30 seconds of them being sold. Then again, for all I know they are just part of the last mass exodus of cancellations. How long do you typically wait?

Yeah I'm discoerving that not all customers are too prompt. They way I would suggest is to send them an initial email reminding them that their order is ready for pick up. If that doesn't get them over to the shop, maybe try another email letting them know that if they are busy, or never online as the same time as you, that is is ok if they send someone else to pick up the goods and deliver payment for them, as long as the customer tells you who they are in advance.

*shrug* Otherwise after a couple weeks send them an email asking them if they still want the garments, and to respond if they do, and if you don't hear back from them throw the garments into a vendor and be done with it.

a week? eek... i would've threw those out after a few days.

i tend to wait until a customer's online before i work on his/her order, since i usually have a load of questions (which red? which long sleeve shirt?) and i usually throw people's orders onto my med or accessories vendor. if someone else buys it, i'll make another and put it back on... but if you're there in between, you'll have to wait

Since I only play a couple of hours in the evening, all custom orders get put on the vendor for pick up the minute it is created. I then send the customer an email letting them know the order is ready, which vendor it is on (I have 5 in my shop), and the price. I also warn them to not delay too long to pick up in case someone else should buy.

This puts the onus on the customer to get over to my shop and do the pickup. Since my shop is just outside of Bestine (less than a minute walk), there is no reason for it to take days/weeks.

If for some reason, it is bought by someone else, I put another copy on the vendor if the customer asks. Otherwise as far as I am concerned, I have filled the order.

For items that are really popular, I *might* make multiple copies just to be safe since the copies will sell eventually anyway.

Net result is ... I don't really have much problem with customers picking up their order .... on the other hand ...I do have a problem with the order poofing out of their inventory when they leave but that is a different story

I used to hold mine over for the durration of the vendor sale.. (6 daysish) but now If they don't show in 24 hours I usualy just put the order on the vendor and hope for the best (untill they fix the backpack issue with vendors or give usbetter way to deliver our goods to our clientel)

I dont do emailed or /tell custom orders if i can help it, if they want something I dont have on my vendors I tell them to come to my shop and make it on the spot for them (95% of my online time i am in my shop anyway).

If I do get adecent mailorder 15-20k+ that is detailed enough and they know exactly what they want I will make a travel pack and name it for them and put the items in that on my vendor. Ive seen some people losing packs stored in stockrooms, but I have never had a problem with this system, and have done it many many times.

What my tailor does is just make the garment while you wait, since it only takes a few minutes if you've got all the available materials on hand. saves her money on orders not paid for and saves money on vendor fees as well.

If we're both on I hold it until they can run over.

If I log, it goes on my vendor and I send them a waypoint.

If it's still on the vendor after a week (this has never happened,) I guess I would put it on the bazaar if I couldn't get the customer to respond to my inquries. Like I said, this has never come up.

I have 4 vendors in my shop currently, 1 of them is devoted to custom orders. Its mostly empty but thats the way I like it, I have it named however I want for the planetary map and when I email people telling them the order is done I mention where this vendor is, unless you look around the house you probably won't find the vendor, and I mention that it will stay on the vendor for about a week. I use this vendor for people in my shop as well so that they can find their items easily, since its mostly empty. In my opinion if I get an auction incomplete email from my private vendor then the clothing goes to my floor vendors selling to the general public. If the item is bought I can just replace it since the person is delaying coming to my shop anyways, though as of yet I haven't had anyone buy off that vendor, seems like most people understand that its a private/custom order vendor.

When someone wants to order something from me I have them send me an email as to when they will be needing the item..I will make it and send them an email that it is ready. If I do not hear from them in another day I resend email..After 1 more day i put it in vendor to sell. I am not going to tie up my resourses to make stuff to sit for weeks.
