Thread: Need to find a Tailor on your Server?
Posting on the Tailor board is probably the worst option you have if you're looking for a tailor to make you clothing, components, BE-wear, or anything else. Tailors from all 26 servers read this board to talk about tailoring. The chances of someone from your server who can make the items you want seeing your post before it drops to page 4 or 5 isn't that big. And sure you can come back and bump, but (and I'm not trying to be mean) this is actually really annoying and not a great way to ask for help. We use this board to discuss questions and ideas about our profession, and the large amount of "Need a Flurry Tailor" or "WTB synth cloth on Starsider!" posts bump down our discussions about tailoring. I'd say there are at least 5 or 6 requests for a tailor on a particular server that go ignored for every one that finds a response. So here are some more productive (and probably faster) ways to find a tailor on your server.
Kara's Guide to Finding a Tailor:
1) Ask your friends and guildmates. Your friends get their clothes from somewhere, right? Or you can just ask anyone you see who's wearing a particularly cool outfit. Compliment them on their look and they'll be happy to send you to their tailor.
2) Ask the dancers in your favorite cantina. Dancers love shopping for clothes. They can definately refer you to a good tailor (or three).
3) Look at what you're wearing. Examining any item of clothing, in your inventory or even in the bazaar will tell you the creator's name (if it was created, looted clothing will have no creator listed). Get in touch with those people and they can either fill your order or get you in touch with someone who can do it.
4) Post on your Galaxy Trade forum. Each galaxy now has a trade forum for folks wanting to buy or sell. Many merchants check their galaxy trade forums regularly. The audience in this forum are all from your galaxy. If you name a post something like "looking for a tailor," you can get responses from tailors, or from folks telling you the names of the tailors they shop with.
5) Use the in-game search feature. In the community menu (ctrl+p) there's a search option you can use to find members of a certain profession. Any tailor who is online, in your area and wearing their tailor tag will show up in this search. You may not find many Master Tailors in this way, since many Masters have enough (or too much!) business that they turn their tags off.
6) Realize that you may not need a Master Tailor. I can't tell you how many times I've had folks tell me they need a Master Tailor, only to make a request that any lower level person could meet. Lower level tailors are often less busy and often have lower prices. Ask any level tailor you can find about your request, and they may be able to meet it. If they can't, they can often recommend higher level tailors on your server that can help you.
Of course we love for non-tailors to post here, but questions that are actually about our profession (about things like what items can be made in what colors, or requests for outfit suggestions) are much more on-topic and will get a much better response than posts just looking for a tailor.
I keep a list of master tailors on Gorath, and I bet most tailors know their peers. You start to get to know each other from training, dealing with clothing that has to be matched, sending customers to them if you are busy, or having referals sent to you.
I do alot of business in the cantinas, and I recommend speaking with any dancer. They will know the tailors with good colour sense and knowledge of their product line. They can also work with you to discuss the best combinations or the right look.Bad tailors get a reputation fast.Good tailors get a reputation faster. Alot of my business comes from email and tells starting with "Hi there, X told me you were a great tailor and...."
Look at people with outfits you think are well designed. Ask them who their tailor is.
That is why my shop has over 200 clothing items on display. NO one wants to tab out and look at a site for reference, and it can get confusing to hear "well it looked like x,y, and z." Half the times, the names in Ctrl+S don't help if they don't know in the first place.

I used to have a set up like that, but after an accident where I lost almost everything, I had to start over. The hard part I find is people don't understand the color pallets. For that, I started my own website which show's the item, and the color palets available for that item. I just finished moving my PA hall and my other storage homes that I have last night, and might do that once again on my server, that is setting up a full display. I have a lot of work ahead of me...

I don't know whether to laugh or cry when people guess at names..."cometrible pants"? Being both chef and tailor, I wasn't sure if he meant "comestible pants" and it was a new edible clothing item I'd missed.
I generally keep at least one of each item on my vendor, as a catalogue of sorts...that seems to work well enough, and people can refer to the vendor for colour preferences too, which helpfully works around the problem of colours appearing different to different people.
