Thread: Bio-Enhanced mods when you have a base of zero in skill?
Is it true that, if you have a base of 0 in a skill, then SEAs or BE stuff that are supposed to modify it won't do you any good?
E.g., I'm wearing a shirt with Combat Bleed Defense +17, and it says on my skill page:
"0/+17"
Is this shirt useless to me?
On the other hand, things like melee and bleed defense aren't profession-related, and I think therefore you would be able to boost those.
Don't quote me!
If it's a skill (and I'm pretty sure EVERYTHING is considered a skill or ability) and you don't have any of it to start with - it's not going to do you a bit of good to enchance something you don't already have.
Bonuses make you better at what you can already do - they don't give you skills - that would be 50 kinds of imbalancing.

Does anybody know where the Combat Bleed Defense skill comes from, incidentally? It just occurs to me that an awful lot of bleed-defense-enhanced clothing probably isn't doing our customers any good.
Every customerwho I have sold Bleed Defense and talked to, say that they haveseen improved situations in combat. The same can be said for the Melee defense clothing. I will have to test out the other clothing in the reinforced line, but here's a theory...
Synthetic cloth: you all ready have to have the skills.
Reinforced cloth: the enhancements will affect the player regardless of base skill.
Any thoughts?
Analogous questions arise from SEAs. At least, I *think* they'd be analogous, though perhaps SEAs and BE stuff operate under different rules for some reason.

Hm...I don't think that's the case, because Mask Scent goes into RFP, but is a profession skill rather than an inherent mod.
I read somewhere once that everyone has a base .000000001 in every skill... or something. So thats why when I have my pike equiped... but no combat skills whatsoever I still counterattack (or block or whatever it is pikes do) every once in a blue moon.
So theoretically every mod should help (except for those you need an active skill to use).
HOWEVER... I've also heard the bonus you get from skill mods can only be up to a max of 25% of your natural skill (one of the theories I've heard). So if you have 100 skill, you can use a full 25 points... however if your only 50 skill, 12.5 it is. Or if your skill is .000000001 then no skill for you!
