Thread: so decay.....do the clothing repair tools work now?
Yes.... well not really, no.
I'm a master artisan. I made a 99.6 repair tool (stealing thenicemetal from my ill-tempered armorsmithing fiance). Then I went to repair some clothes.... They were all down around 950/1000 and this was my first clothing repair.
All of them turned out to be 950/950 - except one pair of gloves which turned out at 666/666. Gee, thanks.
The moral of the story is - don't repair clothing until it gets pretty low. At least down to 700/1000, because then something like 950/950 might seem like an improvement. It's unclear whether the minimum drop in condition is 50 points. I'll be trying more of these tests as more people start dying, but I suspect that it will be cheaper and easier for me to make replacements of non-bio clothing rather than repairing the stupid things.

And there's definitely little point in repairing something that's, like 900/1000, because the gain is likely to be tiny or non-existent, and the risk of total loss might be small, but it exists.
And I'm not certain, but I think *any* repair, even a very successful one, will reduce the "maximum" number a bit. I.e., a successful repair of something that's X/1000 will always create something that's Y/950 at best.
That sounds like it's working perfectly to me. Exactly consistent with how the other repair tools work.

I was curious, so the first time i died (even insured too) i decided to try to fix my clothes. BIG mistake. tool was only about 23% (scrap metal i had on me). It took them all down from 960 (or so, can't remember exactly) to less than 800. one went to like 600 something. I'm afraid to fix anyones stuff now. if they buy the tool and give it to me to use, i will, but no guarantees on anything.
Moral of the story, get really good metal to have a master artisan make them, and hope it is something you can make again.

Actually I don't think we get any bonuses to fixing clothing at all. I repaired some of my own clothing (**edit** tusk cat got me on the way to a harvester) with a92% quality tool, and ALL off the garments condition dropped. One even went from 950/1000 to 600/600 after repair- yes that's right, in the hands of a master tailor with a near perfect tool. What gives?
I have a skill tape for +2 clothing repair and when I put it on my skill window says "Clothing repair 0/+2". When I take it off, clothing repair doesn't even show up in my skills.
Now my big question is, with the "clothing repair" skill in the game, why don't tailors have it? If ANYONE is going to have that skill it should be tailors.
Was it once a skill we used to have but was removed with experimentation? Or is this something else? One would think our mastry over needle and thread would give us a better chance at clothing repair from the average joe, but this doens't seem like the case.
I'm going to start a new thread on this to see if anyone might have some answers.
