Thread: Tailor Technical Issues Problem: Rebel Marine Backpacks
As some of you may know, the Rebel Marine Backpack does not show up while wearing a Gunman's duster. This is seen as the only workaround for being covert while still wearing a Marine backpack; many Rebels don't feel comfortable wearing a blatantly factional piece of clothing when running around Bestine, so they use Gunman's dusters. However, the graphics conflict with the two is listed as a technical issue.
The backpack itself is considered the faction perk of the Rebel alliance; it's a wanted item that cannot be found anywhere else. While somepeople may want to see the animation of the backpackcombined with aGunman's duster, free extra storage without worrying about an animation to ruin one's sense of styleisjust too convienient for many to let go.
As sort of a pseudo-representativeofcovert Rebels, my solution to thisis to put a toggle on the backpack's animation. Say, for example, a soldier wore a Desert CommandJacket; he could checka boxin his backpack'sdescription that toggles thecontainer's animation to either show up on his back or disappear. Thus, that Rebelsoldier could have 50 extra storage slots without having a backpack animation for whatever reason(whether it be a want to have a trenchcoat without back gear or because he wants to wearafactional reward without being branded an enemy.)
This is a little long-winded, but basically many Rebels would appreciate it if we could toggle the animation on or off on the Rebelmarine backpack. If we can'thave this, couldwe simply have the Gunman's Duster/Rebel Marine Backpack combination toourselves?[I like my un-backpacked trenchcoat look!

(I really don't want to go into wookiee issues, I'm WAY over my head in that topic.)

That, and I am not sure why covert rebels are even coming to tailors about this when it would be really nice if all the backpacks, the ones we actually make, would be available with that toggle switch.
I agree! They finally allowed us to wear backpacks with some of the high-end dresses, but I think it was Thunderheart who commented that it is a shame to ruin them with backpacks. I agree, but until we have purses invisible backpacks would be a nice second option.

"Free extra storage?" To clarify, is the Marine Backpack just a standard "holds 50" pack like all the others, or does it have some added functionality?
Technically yes, SueDenim, they hold 50 slots (the same as any other backpack).By 'free' I meant 'doesn't conflict with fashion sense and/or faction issues.
Also, I posted this on the Tailor forums simply because it was mentioned on the tailor forums; it's listed as a priority in the Tailor Technical Issues thread. I may have already mentioned it on there once (can't quite remember), but I just wanted at least get :some: sort of acknowledgement.
The 'invisible backpacks' idea also can be expanded into containers in other clothing. Say someone looted a cargo pocket from a Meatlump near Coronet; he can take it to a local tailor, who can use that container in an optional schematic slot in a piece of clothing. Thus, the clothing is equippable and also has 20 extra slots inside of it (or ten, or however many it could hold). This can apply to nearly all clothes, from pants and shirts to bandoilers and belts.)

I doubt that the developers would like the idea of people having even more personal storage. We can already carry 159 items with us at all times if we want (59 in inventory after you get rid of the back pack slot, one backpack with 50 items and 5 storage droids with 10 slots each). I really like the idea of invisible backpacks, though. If I can't have a purse then I want one of these! I don't even think that it would take a huge amount of work to implement since it doesn't need any new artwork or major mechanics.
