I am very close to being able to train in another First Tier Tailoring skill, and am seeking advice from more advanced tailors about whether it is better to train up the tree (save the points for the second tier of the skill I already have), to train across the first tier in a skill with schematics that I don't have yet, or to train Tailoring I, so I can have more colors and a chance at creating socketed items. What do you think? I currently have Casual I.

It seems to me that the 4th tier Tailoring branches have better items to grind (if you do). I wanted to quit the horror that is the Ribbed Shirt ASAP, so I went to Tier 4 and started making new items. Also, 4th Tier stuff is alot cooler than any First tier items you get.

I'm in the same boat as the original poster. I have Casual I and that's it. I'm still not 100% sure what I'll do but right now my plan is to go up the Casual tree to Casual IV and then start on Field Wear, then Formal, then Tailoring.

The reason Tailoring ranks low on my scale is that thus far everyone has asked for "black" so a wide color palette isn't that essential. Of course, I do get a lot of annoying critical failures so maybe investing in some Tailoring sooner, rather than later, would be wise. I just hate to think of spending the tailoring-exp to get Tailoring-I and find out I get four new shades of mauve and a whole line of pea-green that no one will ever want.

Another concern is skill points. I currently have ~zero~ spare points. Not master of anything --- I'm just spread thin across many professions. I'm going to have to sacrifice some skills elsewhere every time I advance in tailoring. So, I can keep the skills I have longer if I go up ONE tree at a time (5pts - 4pts - 3pts - 2pts = 14pts instead of 5pts - 5pts- 5pts - 5pts =20pts).... although it will ultimately take more tailoring exp to go UP a tree than across, I want to eventually master tailor -anyway- so I might as well take the more-exp, less-skill-point route and keep my OTHER skills longer.
