Have you guys ever discussed having manequins in game? Like maybe craftable by an artisan, you could get a manequin of any sex/species in game that is "dressable" like a current vendors, but will not eat the items you place on them. I thought of this in regard to Image Designing as a mode for letting us earn XP solo using a manequin. XP would be cumulative for all changes done in a session, so that you could do a whole Image Design and get good XP for it rather than just clicking one option to grind away. I posted this in a thread in the ID board, but I was curious about what the tailors thought since we wouldnt want naked manequins. The idea would simply be that you could create a whole look ID and clothes and model them for potential for customers in your stores. In a sense you could make someone look exactly like your manequin or close to it. Maybe remove the AI from them so they dont move around like vendors do. Any thoughts?

I think it's a nice idea, actually. I don't have any room in my shop to display outfits, so having an NPC to drop wouldn't take up space in the cantina and would be very convenient. I would maybe usethem to have different skin colors and display all different colors on them so that customers can see howthe colorswould look on their skin (since so many people aren't so good at picking colors with their skin in mind.. ). However, I very much doubt that this would ever be put in the game. And I would much rather the devsspend time on giving us some capes, good hats, and some Itho-style clothing. Nice thought, though.

Im all for a mannequin of a sort... what I'd really like is thesewing forms that most seamstresses use, or whatever they are called.. lol. I know I've had to beg friends or poor random unsuspecting customers to try on a new outfit idea because I want to see it on a man... lol I've said many times I wish I could be a male char once in a while to see how clothes look. So many of them look different depending on your gender.

If you just drop a full outfit all at the same time (without moving), you will get the effect of a faceless manequin. Hope this helps.

You can get an idea how it would look on a woman..but not a man. A lot of the clothing comes in "female" form. Many items look different on a male than a female, the one that comes to mind specifically is the belted vest. I made a really cool looking "Anakin" outfit with this, yet when I had a male friend try it on it looked terrible. The woman's curves accentuate it, when on a man the V neck of it dips down to the middle of their chest and totally ruins the whole outfit. You can tell how something will look just during the crafting process.. if you drop it on the floor it'll look just as it does in the tool... but it's not gonna tell you what it looks like on a specific figure (ie male or female), which I suppose is what I'd like to see with a "sewing form/manequin/dummy" whatever.

I suppose i could use my vendors as dummies..but if it's ugly I have to remake their outfits

And since one of the recent patches it's now impossible to remove gloves from vendors. The trick of using a Tactical Skinsuit doesn't work, the gloves appear under (and through) the formfitting hand-piece of the skinsuit!

That said, I use a vendor, however you have to have reasonably advanced Merchant skills to be able to create and dress an NPC.

This reminds me of one of my most memorable recent experiences.Igot a/tell from someone who wanted a very specific outfit (red and gold wrapped skirt, grand twi'lek headpiece and leather trim shirt). It sounded vaguely familiar but I started to make it. The guy said he wanted it to be just right so could he take me to a vendor to show me exactly what he wanted.

That's when it twigged that it was my Musical Instrument and Backpack vendor outfit! So I said to him, "G Cubed Merchant Tent, just outside Coro". He replied "Yeah, great outfits on all the vendors but if you could copy the Twi'lek I'd be really grateful". By then I'd finished making the outfit which, so I told him I didn't need to see the vendor because I owned it.

We had a laugh; I gave him the outfit, he gave me a massive tip! It was a really nice experience - and seeing the guy later in the day wearing the same outfit out and about in Coronet was a real thrill. At that point I decided to change my vendor's outfit so thatmy customerwould be an "original".

That's the sort of thing that really makes tailoring fun for me.

Cheers,

Gawgax

well it was more of an ID suggestion that I thought I would post here as well, since I could see it being useful for Tailors as well.

However, like your suggestion when I was a tailor and MAS I had a sewing room set up in my house and would place clothes and armor for display like you said but then add a wood staff in the center of each outfitit to give it kind of a "on the rack" look. Kind of gave some structure to hats especially, rather than a big void where the head would go.

I love the idea of manequins!!

I am master tailor and master ID, i could really benefit.

Maybe they could give this as a crafters quest reward or something, and we could switch the display outfits every week(Kinda like the department stores have)

Looks we had the same idea

I would like to take it one step further with ID though and grant ID xp for work on manequins. Basically, just remove the whole change eye color routine that many use to grind ID and actually allow XP to be cumulative for each change so that each ID session would grant a total XP for Change 1 + Change 2 + Change 3. This would reward the ID for actually sitting down and creating whole looks and utlizing all the skills we have available at different levels of ID. And it would give the MAster ID and laboratory of sorts to work with and allow IDs and Tailors to collaborate on whole looks for characters (like your idea).

I like the idea of having manequins that we can change the clothing of (basically NPCs that aren't vendors), though I'm seriously doubting that the 'Give IDs a new way to grind' line will sell the Devs on it. They are doing their best to take out all forms of away from keyboard play that gives huge benefits (Like what they did with doctos come CU and now with the changes to Ent buffs). And since a manequin like this could possible lead to abuse in the future, I doubt IDs will ever get XP off of 'em.

However, before they add manequins (or maybe even at the same time), I'd like to see them allow IDs to work on a vendor for a merchant. That would open up a HUGE business for IDs,since every merchant I know hates battling the Fugly Vendor Syndrome (or FVS for short). Until then though, I'll just have to settle for my invisable models in my shop, hehe.
