Thread: Yet another clothing decay thread
Wow. Well, from a layman's standpoint, that makes a lot of sense. I am in no way a programmer, so I'm not sure how well that would translate, but it's my favorite solution so far.

I think that is a great idea. ![]()
Since I'm not a programmer, though, I don't know the reprecussions of trying to implement something like that. But, it makes sense to me that if your HAM bar is affected, that your clothes should be affected. They would have to be very careful not to make the decay happen too fast, so it would be more realistic. Clothes should not decay as fast as armor, but should decay significantly faster than, say, furniture or houses.
This is definitely a *much* better idea than decay based on incap/death.
...my 2 credits.
that's actually a great idea
/cheer
if only the devs would implement it

I am against decay.....for the most part anyway.
I think that there should be decay on the special item slots that some clothing has. Like a belt that grants +1 melee wouldnt do so after being worn ofr quite sometime.
The problem isnt that no one will buy things later on when they have everything that they need. The problem i that there isnt any new things for people to want to buy. Give me some new hats, some new shirts...give the women the earrings that they want. Give us new formal wear to walk around looking fancy in.
Give me new chairs to buy, different styles that i would want tohave in my house.
Clothing and Structure decay is going to kill you guys. Least it will where im concerned. Here is the deal.... when i bought the clothing im wearing right now in the game.. i paid quite a bit for it. I had to run all over naboo tracking down one tailor' shop. Dropped over 6k in there picking up a black Muscle Shirt and a Black pair of Pocketed Shorts. I didnt mind paying that much for those things because they were one time purchases. Add decay to the mix, you think im going to drop 2K on a shirt that will just have to be replaced in 2 or 3 weeks (or however long)? Hell no im not, and no one else will either. Im ranger/TKA with a few artisan skills, i can make my own clothes to wear or ill just run around naked. Ill use my precious Endorian, Yavinian, and Dath hides on my new camo kits instead of selling or giving them to tailors.
New content is the way, Say NO to decay!

So you only buy things in real life when they make something new? That's is a terrible idea. Adding new content is far more developer intensive than a decay system of some kind. Are you really so cheap that you wouldn't support a system where your 2k shirt needs to be repaired every couple of weeks and then replaced in maybe 4 - 5 months? Seriously?
As for the original idea, it's fine except for the fact that not only clothes need to decay. Other than the Devs' desire to have one system for everything, I think it's pretty good.
This is a great idea! I don't want my customers to lose their clothing that they display in their homes (though I would understand if this were a necessary evil).I don't want items in my vendor to slowly decay until the point that they can't even be sold at a heavily discounted price. I don't want the problems that were complained about in beta, like not being able to use all my components before they decayed. I don't want the items in my inventory to take damage if I happen to run into some big mean thug on my way to town - especially if I was planning to sell them and then was unable to because they had already sustained damage. I don't want my items to only suffer whencarriedby the adventurous/risk-taking types.
But this... This I like. Although this is not the Wonder-Solution that the devs were hoping for on the decay issue, it is a great one for use-based clothing decay. It may not be the only thing that needs to happen (I would understand if there were a time-based decay, provided it was VERY slow, and didn't apply to items in the factory or vendor).
Have you posted this in any of the threads on the Discussion forum that we know Holo is reading? Have you PM'ed it to him? Please do. It's a great idea that uses existing information and causes realistic decay - of course, it should still be quite slow, since I've been known to burn through those ham bars more times than I can count in an evening at the cantina. The timeframe that others have been mentioning, 4-5 months for replacement (with monthly/bi-weekly repairs), would keep tailor business flowing without a need for a crippling price reduction in order to keep sales going. Of course, we'll need an entirely different solution for those poor architects (who are in the same position with lack of item decay), but I'll save that for another thread. ![]()

I am very new to posting here, so I am not sure of where to send the idea or put it so that the devs might see it. If anyone can tell me, I would be glad to try.
Who wears there clothes in a fight ? Once again that places tailors on a less than even income footing than Weapons and Armor crafters.
Tailors have to fill just as many boxes as they do. I want decay over time. The junk items fall apart in the wash, the quality items can LAST A LIFETIME <dry clean only>
I also support new Architect items to help facilitate this: Washing Machines
, oh, and a new class, Dry Cleaner.
At least as far as Tailoring is concerned, that system is a definite improvement over Holo's proposal. Here are the objections from his standpoint:
- It won't work for furniture. You don't carry your furniture with you while you are out surveying/fighting/dancing so they have to implement something different for items you don't keep in inventory. This is something he wants to avoid.
- It will add a lot of additional stress to the servers. HAM bars are constantly changing. Let's say you are in combat. Every single second you are either taking damage or damaging yourself via special moves. During that second, the system wouldadjust the condition of every single item in your inventory. Multiply that by the thousands of folks online and things turn ugly.
As for me, I'm ticked at how the decay issue was handled, but I'm not sure I even want item decay. I'd much rather see a wide variety of unique and interesting items.I want customers coming to me hoping to "upgrade" their clothing instead of just "replacing" it.
I hate the lack of an Edit button. The last sentance of my first pont should have been:
This is something he wants to avoid - which is why he's not completely happy with incap decay either.

I agree that he would have problems with the first point, but I still think it is absurd that everything should have the same decay system. Furniture does not fall apart for the same reason as weapons. Nor does clothing, armor, crafting tools, houses, etc. They are all different and all should have a system which makes sense to that kind of object. I don't see how any system that treats all objects the same could make any sense.
As for the second point, I am already conceding that it is only a system for clothing. You would only have to do this to clothing that is being worn at the time. Some of the work can be done on the client side, assuming that they have made the client secure enough. I don't think that this is as hard as keeping track of the age of every single item in the game, which they apparently did in the beta.
I also agree that there should be more variety. I haven't made it to master tailor, but it appears that you can't even do something as simple as play with the hemline. I think that decay will be added before something like this, or even periodic design changes.
