Thread: Using Profession Revamps to Our Advantage II: Droid Engineer

If you check the DevTracker, the long range plan for droids and droid engineers is out there. Most interesting for our purposes is that Publish 8 is slated to have new droid modules, some of which would have brand new art elements (one described - new Entertainer special effects.)

This might be a good place for advocating our longstanding desire for some form of "mannequin" or "outfit preview" system. I've often thought this would be a great function for a droid - I can just picture my R2 unit Kickbot showing a hologram of the latest outfits!

Sue, nice thought about "drifting" off the droid engineer changes. Lord knows we need something, lol. The prevue thing is one of those real controverial proposals as you know however. To me itturns a tailor into a walking vendor"no, no, a little darker, no adjust that red, no, that's not what I want at all, 2 hues lighter, no, now try blue, no, lighter, lighter, now darker, yes, that's it". Personally, if we have that I think it's only a real small step to just letting customers just design their own clothing.

As far as what would be cool for tailors in terms of a droid/tailor synergy, hmm, I'm drawing a blank (happens a lot at the end of the day, lol). As a tailor I would love a droid that let me hold more stuff, but that's hardly very exciting or helps get us anything new that we can craft. Dunno.

I would like soemthing that would only show the style of things we have available and not color ranges.

What I was actually thinking of would be like this....

Picture something along the lines of the "factory" interface. In the "ingredients" hopper, you'd "place" actual articles of clothing, but it'd be more like a photocopier - the actual clothes don't move. Next, you'd be able to select something about the "model" - e.g., "Human male," or "Bothan female," or whatever. Then you could "Activate" and your droid would show a hologram of your clothes on the selected body. Better still would be an interface allowing you to quickly swap in and out alternate articles of clothing - show what it looks like with a Modest Skirt instead of a pair of pants, etc.

I agree that we don't want anything *too* flexible, which is why I'd say restrict it to clothing already made.

That would be interesting if it was something we could actually leave up in our houses while we weren't online as a kind of rotating display.

Another idea could be to have a type of droid chassis that would basically be an either female or male mannequin. We could dress them just like vendors, when we give them an outfit we lose the clothing, but it would be a neat looking display, and the mannequin droid would count as one item no matter how many clothes it was wearing. That way we could have more displays than we currently do.

An easier system is to have a button on the clothes EXAMINE option, so that the vendor would wear it. That way, if you have a male or female vendor, it would show them with the clothing on. Perhaps have a 30 second timer, then switch back to the default clothes. I can see this getting a bit difficult if there are 3 people at your vendor trying to click "Show" constantly.
