For ease of reference, let's use this grid when discussing the colors on the main palette that we can live without. So you can say "I think A7-A14 are totally useless".

Row 3 a-n [grays]. There seems to be an over abundance of grays in our pallet.

Row 6 a-n [more grays] This row of colors is almost identical to row 3 a-n. Too close in hue/tone to row 3.

Row11 a-g [mustard gold] As with grays, there seems to be an over abundance of mustard gold.

Row 14 a-g [more mustard gold] Evidence of more family colors that are just too similar to really be worth keeping in the pallet.

These two color families are repeated to the point of monotony in the Tailor's color pallet, in my opinion. If we need to find a sacrificial lamb to achieve a better fine-tuning of our profession, I couldn't think ofmore worthy targets.

Ok, I was wondering, what colours could you happily toss out?

4 rows of off-yellow, and 4 rows of purple would definately top my list... I could also lose one each of thesix blues and three greens we have, if they could change those to a yellow-green and ablue-green.

I would rather not lose any colors. Many outfits require a subtle manipulation of palettes to get the desired result, and believe it or not the various greys can make a big difference in the final look of a combo.

There are certain colors like the mid range yellow/golds that I almost never use, but I'd hate to lose the OPTION of using them.

I dunno, like I said in the other thread, I probably utilize less than 30% of the colors on the palette but it's nice having them there. I'd say that the colors that people are suggesting for removal are at least as good as the ones that people are suggesting for adding, lol, oh well.

Ack! Row 3 h-n is my "slate" family! I need those. Hehe.

Hm…don't think I ever really use these, but they're not bad.

Mmmm…baby-poop-yellow. I could live without this family.

Anyone else have the upper right quadrant NoMan's Land? I hardly ever use anything from H/N 1-9. Tho I have gotten a recent fondness for N6.

I use em all It depends on the type of outfit I'm making. Even baby poop yellow can be used in camo pants

I don't agree with losing any colors from our pallet. Like it was stated above its nice to know they are there if we need them.

This hasn't come up and I don't anticipate that it will. But should it come up, in a scenario that for database reasons, the devs can't add any new colors without getting rid of some of the old, would we be willing to ditch some of the pukey colors for new desirable colors? I think that we would.

If it ever does come up (highly unlikely) we'll chat seriously.

I find myself rarely using colors from about rows 1 to 8, except for white, black, and grays, (though I did make some classy looking dress slippers once from N1 ). I could easily give up half the colors in this part of the palette and not notice. I think there are too many shades of uninteresting and unuseful colors. I will use some of them for camo pants, but even then I feel there is much overlap in earthy tones in the various color groups. What I would really like to see are the additions of some dark greens (I get requests from rangers for something in a dark green, and I just can't get it from this palette), dark (navy) blues, blue-greens, bright yellow, and maybe some yellowish greens.

While we're talking about palette, I think that novice tailors should have access to more of the bright colors. It would really help them out, and make them more useful while they're working towards Master. As they increase in tailor experience then they could get more shades of the colors and have the palette fill out between the colors (i.e. between the darkest and lightest shades of a color group or something similar) instead of just working their way to the brighter and prettier rows at the bottom of the color table. That's my opinion anyway.

At one point or another, I find myself using every color on that pallete. I've found neat things I can do with subtle color variation. If anything, I don't want fewer colors, I want more colors, like a richer yellow.

I have been going up tailor, and I made special note to go up the "color" branch first.

Why?

Because I want more colors.

But I do admit that some of the colors are way to close for me to notice any change.

Maybe im just color-blind.
