Thread: Tailor Nerf? Colorization for all?

My comment was not meant as a slam on the correspondents either. I do know, however, that they have a direct line of communication to the devs, while we do not. We rely on them to pass information to them that represents our views. However, I do also know that they get asked for their personal opinions on topics - I can't remember where I read it, but there was something about a correspondent's thread on a subject, and the opinions being one way or another on a particular issue. So, they get asked for feedback and are not just a conduit of a community's views.

With all the other challenges facing tailors (lack of decay, the new vendor limits, over-saturation of the market, no new schematics, etc) I thought the idea of recoloring items to be just about the last straw. Just about the only repeat business I have is for different colors. I even go through the palette and add"new" colors to my lineup every once in a while. I've always been complemented on my sense of colorand now this the one way I differentiate myself from the other 100+ tailors on my serveris being threatened by this recoloring idea. So yeah, I got my hackles up over this one.

How excited were we when we got the "lost master colors" restored? If we do get new colors for leather items, who wants to recolor old boots, gloves and wookiee items, and who wants to create new ones? Which do you think would be more fun? How about if they add more colors in the future? Do we want to make new items, or recolor old ones? Personally I think the minor inconvenience of remaking an item several times for a picky customer is nothing compared to the drudgery of being asked to recolor something you made six months ago, or worse yet, that your undercutting neighbor made.

There are so many issues and bugs, I personally don't see it as a good use of developer time to make some complicated recoloring system. If they think enough non-tailorssupport it, I could easy see them just "cutting and pasting" the dye pack code from vehicles to clothes. Then where will we be?

I've said it before and I'll say it again.. we have no decay.. all we have is a customer's desire for a new look to drive repeat business. Once they have a few outfits they like, the only thing to bring them back is different colors. One of my best customers must have revealing tops and matching comfortable slacks and dress slippers in at least a dozen colors. I'm sure out of those, there are ones she no longer likes. Would I rather recolor those or make new ones? I've already made my opinion cleary by this point.

I agree, and would rather it did NOT go through at all - That's my position in a nutshell.

Ditto. I'd rather there be no recoloring for clothing PERIOD. It negates what we do and why we do it. I enjoy helping a customer get the color they want. It does not bother me to remake something until we hit just the right shade of tan. If he or she could just pop over to the bazaar and buy a dye pack or get any tailor to do it, you might as well just put clothing dispenser terminals back into the game.

Yeah, machines, okay. Vehicles and droids would realistically get a new shiney paint job occasionally.I'd support Architects gettingthe ability to actually have a color palette for furniture! I'd kill to be able to paint the walls in my house. Those are all things people commonly have "recolored." But clothes? Well yah, back in the 60's and early 70's, I remember, we used to tie-dye and batik a little bit. But take your entire wardrobe, dump it into the washing machine with some Rit dye and recolor it all? Ummm, nope.Never did that.

If Ireally like a dress I see in a store, I buy it in blue, white and sometimes green and black. Three or four of the same thing. I have two sets of one negligee and robe, and then two more of the same robe, but matched with different nightgowns.

That's what we do. And it's fun. And that's why we do it.

If recoloring ever goes beyond the proposal stage, Tailoring will become a vending machine business. The personal touch will be removed. And so will the fun.

I vote no no no no.

donnah42,

for your last part about using a similar interface as the temp comp armor one, you can view the armor as you color it. Just examine the piece in question from your inventory and you can change colors and see how it looks at the same time without hitting ok.
