Thread: Under cutting and What do you do about it?

I was so disappointed the other day to find flightsuits and grand healer robes in the bazaar for sale at $3K...what a disgrace to our master profession
That's such a shame. If I can ever afford to, I'm going to start buying and destroying everything like that I see. Sure they get their money out of me. That's fine. With the economy how it is, 3k is almost chump change.
But I don't want hundreds of non-decaying, cheap, high-level items in the system.
And my point is that that is a silly way to price things. By that logic, you'd still charge 625 for those boots if everyone in the game had over a billion credits? Why do you feel your time is worth less than the time of someone running missions?
Btw, 625 for High-Quality Boots, that require 4 factory components, another component, and Wooly Hide from Tatooine... Wow. You could make about that much selling the resources. If I sold them at that price, I'd make no money, spend all my time on shuttles to/from Tatooine, and burn out in a week.
Please make a post after you've made Master and been one for a week or so (whenever that is). If I'm still around, I'll definitely be interested to see if your perspective changes when you go from theory to practice.

This messes with the argument that "low prices are bad for new crafters," since obviously, with lower prices, more items are sold... and that is *good* for new crafters.
Obviously... but then again, selling more items at a lower price means making less money for using more resources, which maybe isn't so good for new crafters after all. I think you're also overestimating the elasticity of the demand side of this sector of the economy. Low prices won't move more merchandise in a condition of market saturation.
Actually, a brand-new character can run two delivery missions to another city and net 1000 or so in that single run. And a second thousand on the way back. And so on. *grins*

When idiots say "Can I have 500 cr for a ticket home?" I kindly point out that they can take their cowardly gurreck out to a mission terminal and earn that money in no time flat. But basing prices on a multiple of mission rewards wouldn't help much anyway... if you charge 15k for a revealing fleshwrap, that means that it takes a brand-new character running 500 cr missions 15 rounds of missions to earn it. That's... why, more than an hour! You've improved the economy immesurably.
Anyone who thought my character was undercutting can now be thankful, I'm now pretty much guild exclusive for free, and will have vendors but my town's so far out there (until we get our player city shuttle) that if they survive the trip they deserve to pay cheap prices.
Once the shuttle's come into play AND IF business picks up then I'll reevaluate my pricing. hehe
