Thread: Tailors don't sell your Profession Short
Regarding Bounty Hunters. Well, there are ways around conventional consentualism. Don't be too surprised if it should happen. But you will be surprised as to some of the cleverness that bounty hunters are capable of.
That being said, as much as I detest snowleaper's business model, hiring a bounty hunter to kill another merchant is below us. As good as it might feel, it's up there with communism and facsism. This is not the action to take. I would encourage you, my fellow tailor to not explore this option.
As stated before, everyone here has given good and bad arguments agains snowleeper's model. Whether we think it inane, or pure genious is really irrelevant. I said before, as backed up by many in this thread and on this forum, that snowleaper's business model is an outlier. It is not the norm, nor even close to the average. Outliers rarely effect the whole of aneconomy. The best thing we can do is internally decide which model is correct for us, and let this thread serve to be a lesson in how the world works and that there is always grey area.
That being said, I still think it's pretty funny that snowleaper ripped his one valid defender early on in this thread. That's it. ![]()
2k for master tailor stuff? Wow. I get 1.5k per Decorated Belt on the bazzar and they fly. What some Tailors have in their mind I think is that they are "just" making clothes. They need to be reeducated that it's "just" credits. A couple missions, boom credits to spend. Credits are so easy to earn, except for how you are trying to do it. Would you rather sell hundreds and hundreds of clothing items for a marginal gain, or sell 10 items that people WILL pay 10k for, and net 100k in a day. I've done it, other Tailors are doing it. People WILL pay that much. You speak as if you know a lot about economics, well then tell me this. If you can sell 10 items for 100k, and people have shown they will pay that amount, would you not do that, or would you rather sell the same 10 items for 20k?
SoE knows that previous customers of online games will gladly pay 10-15 bucks a month to play their games. Do you see them dropping their price for SWG? Nope, they maintened the same price. Why? Because we've proven we'll pay it. That's good economic sense on their part, now it's time for some Tailors to go to Economics school too. =)

Everybody paid their own money for the game, let them play how they want.
And I'm assuming no one else out there is using harvesters yet, or you would know it's possible to get extremely low cost resources from them. Look into it, it's better than AFK macroing (amount-wise)
and to the person that said if you can get that much for an item why not do it.
Because it makes me feel dirty.

You pay to much for resources. Don't blame me for that. I get them at under 1 credit each.
Um Snow...
I am on your side.
Your response make no sense directed at me as I was peaking TO your points and agreeing with you on them AGAINST over charging for items. We have different prices but we share the same ideals. If re-read my posts throughout the thread you will see quite plainly I am against people charging insane prices because "they can". I am not sure if you actually read my post, or if you just misconstrued what I said but you are way off base.
BenjCaliman and Dridstar thanks for pointing that out to him I had to re-read his response there, I was not sure but it looked to me as if he was sayign I was wrogn for agreeing with him.

Anyhow thanks for pointing that out, I really do appreciate it.

I asked 10 people both in real life and in game about your scenario about people buying your cheap crap and reselling higher. EVERY SINGLE ONE of them said they'd raise their prices. Not a single one applied SnowLeepers utter lack of business sense or common sense and said "I'd write stupid messages on them so that NO ONE makes money".
Funny, I seem to be making money on them....

Since the Devs have said since beta that these will be some sort of consentual system, you won't be able to take one out on me.
Don't forget that you need approx 350000 units of resources and up to 135000 credits for training to reach master tailor. If you consider that you could have sold the resources instead that takes the total cost up to about 1000000 credits. The profit margin when selling itemsneed to be sufficient to make up for the investment within a reasonable amount of time. For an ingame bussiness I would say within 1-2 months.
If you buy a new state of the art processor from Intel for $500 the materials might cost $5. If you buy a shirt at a local retailer for $20 the retailer might buy it from a Chinese company for $5 and it might cost that company $2 to produce it (where materials make up for $1). Material costs are often just a tiny fraction of the price.
The problem with tailoring in SWG is that materials and experientation makes no difference. This needs to change. While I guess that experimentation and materials could increase the amount of available colors, this would not be enough. There need to be some other possible benefits as well.
Hmm... I'm guessing the 3000 credits price was on an "auction" item since advertisement pieces aren't intended to sell. It's very easy to go remove the item, and relist it before the 7 days are up -- meaning no one ever gets the master item for 3000 credits, they just get to look at the nice item the master tailor can make, and decide they'd like to visit his shop.
Possibly mine, in fact?
I sell my master items for 10 - 13k and will continue to do so until I no longer have any customers. If 3 customers each buy one 10k item a day, I've spent 5 minutes of effort for 30k. Selling at 3k each, it would take me 10 customers and more than three times the amount of crafting time, PLUS the extra effort of attracting that many more customers to my shop to make the same amount of money. Higher prices = more profit and less effort. AND more customer satisfaction, since they are proud of earning such a wonderful item. I sell my service, not just my goods (or resources).
