Thread: Disturbing Trend in BE Gear

My BE friend that I use is called Isalasi, and she is great. She is also a Master CH, and I gave her a set of +25 taming pants and 100,000 credits as payment for making my schematic for +14 taming. I got 2 crates of it, and I fell that she deserves a percentage of the profit I am making. those +25 pants could havebeen sold for 1 million credits on Gorath, but that is a decent share for her.

If she is reading this, thanks so much for all the work and fun we've had making these up hon!!!

I guess just make a policy and stick to it.

I decided long ago that I would not sell schematics...partly cos I didn't know how to price them, and second cos I would rather sell the cloth myself. Since we have no BE's left on Starsider *cough* I haven't had to deal with people coming up to me with a rare tissue and then asking me to put it in a cloth for them, but I think my policy will again be no.

"Sorry...I don't feel comfortable doing that since 1) my buisness is to sell clothing, including BE clothing, and when I put a your 50k tissue in a garment and then sell it to you for 2k, it undermines the whole purpose of my profession, and 2) I don't need the hassle or stress of having a critical failure and you being upset with me, so I'd rather spare us both hehe. Good Luck"

Yup. I think my policy is going to be pretty much 'Sorry, I don't do that' unless it's a super-rare tissue that I can't get ahold of myself. I'm not a boutique-style salesperson, myself. I only do mail special orders, and only if they already know what they want. Since my original post, I've done some experimenting with occasionally allowing people to do that and charging them above and beyond the price of the clothing in order to make it for them. It just takes too much time out of my play to have to sit there and explain to them everything that needs to be explained, and lay out all of the disclaimers about crit-fails and what not.

The last couple of times, I explained to the individual that it undermines my business, but I'll do this once for them, and in the future they'll have to just by my items, and it's worked pretty well. I'm running into fewer and fewer instances of it.

I've had the same issues with be requests and it's driving me nuts. I decided to make a color coded webpage to help people figure out what can be boosted and what can't but they still ask, "what shirt can be +25 to healing?!? and can I get bleed defence on there too?" after I give them the url. Maybe I didn't make it clear enough. =(

I generally get requests from people who will use the tissues I have, but are willing to liaise with my BE contact if I don't have enough, or don't have what they want.

I don't keep BE stuff on my vendor, as a practice, because there are too many variables, as has already been mentioned - style, colour, combination of tissues. The only ones I have on my vendor now are from custom orders that haven't been picked up in months. -_-

If customers bring tissues to me, I tell them there's a chance it'll all go *poof* in a crit failure (which hasn't happened yet, thankfully), and if they just want info with which to place an order for tissues, I'll advise them to order a few more to fall back on.

Not picky about business, I guess..but I have no qualms about turning people away if they treat me like an NPC vendor.
