Thread: Is it just me or are men a pain to deal with as customers?
Here's something you might want to try if they're being indecisive. Tell 'em to log out and check out www.swgcenter.com or somet other site that has a clothing display section. I don't have much experience in finding such sites, but swgcenter seems to work just fine to match my needs.
And if they start to cut down your price, just put them on the ban list in your building ![]()
And I dunno if a shortsleeved jackets gonna cut it for me. It's, well... to short. I try to get my character looking as much like myself as I can, so far I've done a good job, hence why I'm wearing a spec-ops duster, decked out in black. Not because I'm a stereotypical male, but because I effin' look like this in real life!
Maybe a black/blue or gray or something cold weather jacket would break me from the norm... Suggestions are appreciated!
Only being a novice tailor so far and really not selling anything publicly (I've no idea if I'll get any further either), I can only speak for my experience with trying to dress my partner. Please keep in mind, this is a man who, in Asheron's Call, wore the same clothes under his armor that he started with all the way to level 121.
He has no thoughts of specific items. But if you ask him, "Do you want to look like a hunter, street fighter, explorer, like we're going out on a date?", then he can get a visual of the image he wants to project. Then it's just a matter of choosing colour & he tends to stick with blue, black or dark green.
Now if I can get him to just wear something besides jeans and t-shirts in real life!
You may have already found this, but here's a color matching tip for folks who haven't. Have the customer wear the item they want you to match, examine them, and then leave that examine window open to refer to while you craft. Examining the person will show them (and more importantly their clothes) with the same lighting conditions as the customization screen of your crafting tool. It's still tricky picking the right color, but at least you won't be depending on the nasty lightingin the houses!

It's hard to match when the lighting inside the house isn't great and you don't know which color family the original creator used. It's a real challenge. But hey, if I didn't want to be busy, I wouldn't have been a tailor.
I guess I got it pretty easy. My wife is a Master Tailor on Bria.
Her: Gimme a trade window.
Me: <double click her>
Her: Put these on.
Me: I'm not gonna look like a dork, am I?
Her: Would I do that?
Me: ...
Her: /evileye
Me: Okie dokie... Puttin' them on.
I also get to play dress up when women come in to buy clothes for men. That's a lotta fun.

If I get a customer that has no idea what they want I always send them to Nivea's website. That site for those who do not know it is www.thehonorempire.org/nivea. There are pictures of 98% of all clothing items. I tell them to browse the items and look at the available color pallettes. I also explain to them that I am not blowing them off, rather I am ensuring they will have the knowledge to make an informed decision in this and future sales. Either way it works. I always get a thank you and they leave me alone. Some even come back with an exact idea of what they want. I dont think its really a sex thing. It is an information thing. Women generally talk about their outfits with one another while men generally do not apart from "This looks cool!"
A good ESB Han Solo outfit (come on you all have had this request) is:
White Sidebuttoned Shirt
Black / Dark Blue Casual Jacket
Black Uniform Boots
Dark Brown Workmans Belt
Black / Dark Blue Striped Pants with Yellow Stripe
Dark Brown Leather Gloves
For those who love black / Matrix look. Call it the Neo and charge 10k for it ![]()
Black Gunman's Duster
Black on Black Flexform Shirt
Black on Black Paramilitary Camos
Black Hide Boots
Black Leather Gloves
The Reinforced Pants / Flexform Shirt combo looks good with complimentary colors. Add a Reinforced Jacket or Pilot's Jacket for added style.
And my favorite combo that I am presently wearing myself is:
Decorative Vest, Black / Purple trim
Leather Trim Shirt, Purple / Black trim
Thin Striped Pants, Black / Purple stripe
Black Hide Boots
Black Leather Gloves
Male customer last night...
"I want a black heavy flight suit"
me: "Ok, np I need a minute to make it after I finish with this customer"
"I want to trade this red heavy flight suit for it"
me: "I only accept sell backs on items just bough"
"But why? Its not like it wears or anything"
me: (thought to self, what do i look like a library?)
me: Do stores in RL accept unopened packages after the 30 day refund time?
"but this isn't RL"
me: "I'll buy it for half price. I do need to make a living, can't exists on infinate free exchanges, especially since I have to make you a new item from scratch"
(customer balks a bit, other customer gets involved in discussion)
...skip ahead, customers sells back old suit for half price, buys 2 new resquested suits, then sells the second custom suit back for full cost...
"I give your permission to dress me"
me: Huh? I'm busy now with another customer.
"Ok I'll wait, I want to look like a BH"
me: "have any idea what you want"
"No"
me: "Ok look around the shop and see if you like anything while I finish this order"
"Ook"
(I finish what i'm doing and he comes back)
me: do you know what you want?
"No, I give you permission to dress me"
me: "ok, I'll make a few things and try them on for you, let me know if you like either the style or the color"
"What do you mean, I don't understand"
me:"just let me know if you like the outfit, but not the color or vise versa"
(sews a couple of outfits)
(spend about an hr making jackets, pants, and vests, none of which he likes)
me: "what do you think, how about green or brown?" (other customer suggested earthy tones for BH look)
"ok"
(models)
(silence)
me: "what do you think?"
"no, I'm not a big fan of green, camo pants are cool though."
me: "ok what colors do you like?"
"Maroon, maroon and black" (this is after he sold back an black BH outfit i made earlier...
me: "ok, i need to log soon, but let me make you some cool maroon/black camo pants and a T shirt.
(makes clothing and models)
"Yeah thats really cool".
(puts clothing on vendor)
(customer buys pants) (yay!)
"Can you make me some pants, maybe black with a small ribbed yellow stripe?"
me: "ok sure"
"and a tan shirt, it has sitches up the side"
me: dress shirt?
"yes thats it, can i have a tan one?"
me: ok
(makes tan dress shirt and puts on vendor, customer buys)
"don't you have one with the sitches farther to the left?"
me: (checks schematics) "Formal shirt kinda does"
"yeah thats it, can i have one in brown?"
me: ok sure... need to log after that (its now been over 2hrs with this customer)
(makes formal shirt, customer buys, wishes him farwell and logs)
Come back later to find he sold back all the items be bought (about 7 out of 9) save the brown formal shirt and black striped pants. (both novice lvl items from a master tailor!) Through the whole process I had about 20 extra pieces of clothing to stock on my vendors.
Oh what a headache...
i havent noticed any gender issues but I have noted there are good customers...and evil customers. Those that make you craft out 10 outfits never wanting any get the boot fast. Its not like we can reclaim components and many items take factory or rare materials. the worst was a person who trotted up to my master tailor and said, ''can you make me an outfit?'' I replied, ''certainly, something in particular?'' she smiled and said, ''yes, ive a very specific outfit in mind'' and then starred blankly. I chuckled and saisd, '' which outfit?'' she replied, ''I dont know the names.'' not a problem, Im thinking so i said, ''can you describe them?'' she just said, ''no.'' I laughed to myself and asked her how we could determine what they were and she just said, ''i don't know. bye!'' lol
but sreriously, the ones who consume not just all of your factory crates but also your time do get me grumpy.
