Thread: Would you ever sell a re-enforced schem for 4k?!

The reason why armor smiths makes 10x more money than a tailor is because of tailors selling schematics for 3k. Personally i have never seen an armor smith selling schematics for armor. A lot of tailors have no business sense because they enjoy making clothes notmaking money. If they can sell at cost, they are happy. The problem with that is.. these tailors does not realize they are hurting other tailors or the tailor profession in general. The tailors that are nice enough to train you for free.. how do you think they make their money to get training in the first place? they sure didn't make it by selling clothing at cost and by selling clothes and schematics cheap, you are actually hurting the people that have benefited you.

My suggestion is, if you don't want to make money from selling schematics, then don't sell it at all. Tailors need to stick together. Weapon smiths sell high level guns for 10k+ each. Do you think it cost them anywhere near that much to make one? No because weapon smiths and armor smiths have business sense and they stick to a price. If tailors don't work together and stick to a price, we'll always be the poorest advance artisan profession. Which is quite sad because we work just as hardat our professionas they do. infact i think we work much harder.. i've spent as much as an hour working with just one customer to get them clothes they want because they don't know what color combo works or which jacket will look good with which pants. Armor and weapon smiths have it easy since all they do is what gun you want? here's the stats, want it or not? sold.

How do you, mechanically, go about transferring a schematic to another player? From your last post, you imply that you can't do it via the trade window?

let me ask you this:

Would that same armorsmith sell you the schematic for a chittlin armor breast plate?

Nope. If he is not going to sell you his profession, so why would you sell him yours?

Agreed Winter. From what I've seen and heard, it seems like most Tailors just do not see the bigger picture. It's almost as if this narrow perspective is exclusive to the Tailor profession.

What's going on here?!? It's perpetuated to the point where people get upset when you don't practically give away schems. They EXPECT it. And Tailors are happy to oblige. It's not just about selling a schematic...it's about selling the time you invested to be able to make that schem...and the time it's going to save that person now that they can run it in their own factory. And that's just the time.

A set of Chitin armor will sell for 40k. From what I understand, you can make 2 suits of Chitin per crate of Fiber panels. That's 320k the Armorsmith will make on a 100 use schem that you sold them for 2k or whatever. This HURTS us in so many ways, seen and unseen. There are a host of variables, short and long term, that Tailors just seem oblivious to.

I had one guy give me a tell today. He wanteda schem. I told him I don't sell them cheap. WhenI told him I wanted 80k he got upset and started laughing. He said something along the lines of, "That's rediculous. I'm not paying that. You might want to check your temperature cause I think you have a fever. If you want to charge that, fine. I'll just wait for some other Tailors to get the skill in a few days.".

Now hold on here. This muthaphucka is getting upset cause I want 80k for a schem that will bring him 300k+??? That's retarded. He offered me 10k! Now THAT was absurd. So I replied that he would make 300k+ on the schem so it's actaully him who has the fever. Told him that it wasn't my problem if other tailors didn't see the bigger picture. And if he had a problem with my price, take his business to one of those tailors.

Then he he calmed a bit. And offered me 15% of the profit he'd make on every piece sold. Even though that comes out to only $48,000 in the end, it was a good deal because it provided me with long-term inter-planetary contacts. So I agreed. Since he was on another planet I also had him pay my travel fees. He came away happy and I did too.

People dont' understand something....when you trade...it MUST be an even trade on both sides. If it is not, the other person will lost respect for you. Oh, they'll come back cause you offer low prices but your value as a person to them has dimished whether they admit it or not. And they will either seek to use you or seek to avoid you. It's the way humans work. Every trade must even out somehow. Now or later. If not, you're giving away your power.

My fellow Tailors...keep the entire dynamic in mind.

If it matters we are not the only profession with this problem. Medics have it even worse. You have the idealists who refuse to ever charge for healing even though it's in all medics everywhere best interest to charge for healing. It's one of the reasons I left the profession in the dust after playing one thru out beta. The really funny thing is that I crafted more as a medic then I do now as a tailor. At least I have something I can sell now.

For the schematics I pulled 5,000 out of the sky as a number when I first set it. I figured it was fair and inline with the 5000 I charged for factory made crates of the stuff. Looking back I wish I would have charged more for both now but I'm in to deep to jack up prices to high now. Not to mention all the other tailors have caught up to me also so I have no urge to upset my loyal customer base for the stuff when they can probably get it cheaper from another tailor now.

On a side note I do have to ask, What are some of you people thinking with prices to clothes. I've seento many tailors horribly under sell their items. All it's doing is hurting yourself and everyone else.

I agree that schematics should not be sold, unless for as much cash as you would make crafting the items

As tailors it is our job to make these items not the job of the armorsmith.

When you say you get 300cr/sheet though, that's different. You supplied the material (from harvesters which are not cheap). You supplied the factory time (which isn't cheap either).

Now as a lower level tailor, given those expenses and the fact that mabari requires factory cloth, I can charge 500cr/sheet (12k/crate) for synthetic. I imagine I could charge more for Reinforced panels when I get there.

But frankly, I don't wanna be a sub-tier supplier. I want to sell finished goods. If an armorsmith offered me 10k for a 100 count run of synthetic, I think i could see my way clear to do that. I think 4k is a bit low. But the concept of selling a schematic for anywhere near the price of the items themselves is ridiculous. No way am I going to ask 48k for a schematic that cost me 30s to make. 10k yes. 48k no.

GOD NO... MY fellow crafters if you are selling your schematics for so low your insane. It's been said but let me reapeat the armorsmiths are trying to put one over on you. They have a product that well over 2/3'rds of people will grind out missions to buy. They will quickly put that schematic to work and make well over 50 to a hundred times what you charged. That is not fair market value, that's just plain bad business. I'm a tailor for alot of reasons but let's look at it, I have upkeep; harvestors, factories, house, and travel. All of these things make up part of my pricing. If I give away 22,000 credits every schematic I'll go broke because eventually the few items I mass produce will be valueless because the armorsmiths can make it.

Some of you might think I'm wrong and your welcome to that, but I ask you to do this, go find a armorsmith and ask them for a schematic for every piece of armor they make, offer them 4k per schematic then come back here and tell me what they said. With few exceptions they DO NOT want the competition. The market on Lowca supports a 5k per 25 unit factory crate of synth cloth, and 6.5 for reinforced. So I charge 26k for reinforced schematics, and 20k for synth. I don't lose anything that way and the armorsmith's got to sell 1 extra suit of armor...

Please don't sell yourself and the rest of us short, we have a hard enough road without undercutting each other. There are not tons of tailors on the servers, if we stick together on pricing we will all have better results and more fun.

Mordra,

You so obviously have no clue. I'm on Eclipse, my in-game is Reth. I can sell you working, 100 unitsChitin Armor Schematics for 10k aschematic, as many as you want, as good as I can make them. No tricks, no gotchas. One piece of Chitin sells for 3k atm. According to your calculations it's a good deal.

So, how about putting your money where your mouth is?

Money where my mouth is? Ok, I do every day I'm online. As for having no clue well you are of course welcome to your opinion. It's short-sighted ill-thinking like your espewing to us that creates the problems that will exist in the future. e.g. You undercut pricing on the materials, allowing the people who rely on your schematic not their own abilities to quick run items to market, thereby undercutting the price of items already established. This causes the other *insert whatever trade you wish* to lower their prices, which creates a market of people who want to know why they should pay your "Inflated" price. In the meantime your harvesters begin to decay and shut down because you have no cash etc etc etc... Please though, by all means do as you wish it's only a game.
