Thread: Hearing this made me sick to my stomach

I am presently still an Artisan on the way (almost half) to Tailor.

As for the prices of my goods, I think I come under the category of "Not Knowing What An Item Is Worth/What It Will Sell For." I started selling my lower level artisan clothes at 100cr and as I went up the Domestic Arts tree experimented with raising my prices to see what would sell. Thus far, I've found that for Artisan clothing items (even those like frock that use more resources than other items) don't seem to sell for more than 450cr. or so (with the exception of the travellers pack which I can sell for 1.5k or so). This is also, I'm sure, in part to the lack of color variety that I can offer.

As for undercutting, I do admit to giving clothing made-to-order away for free to Entertainers (though many demand to pay me anyway) in exchange for passing on the word as to who gave them their cool clothes. But otherwise, I do not price any bazaar items for less than what I can see is my own going value. If this is still undercutting (mind you I am not selling tailor level items) it is what I need to do to successfully sell my items and make a mediocre living. As for my standard made-to-order items, I cannot see as an Artisan being able to demand the same prices as you Tailors for outfits that I've heard talk of amounting to several thousand credits. If anything, that's due to my admiration of the Tailor profession.

Let me know if I'm out of line or if you've sold Artisan level items for more. Thanks.

I want to play Monopoly with you guys. I'd land on your Boardwalk with a hotel, and then tell you that the rentlisted is "gouging" and haggle you down to fifty bucks, all the while raking in oodles of cash from the optional "free parking" house rule.

The value of items in the game is set by supply and demand. If people in the game are willing to pay 50,000 credits for a sapphire blugglenarque, I'd be an utter fool to sell it for anything less than that price. I'm generous to my friends and family, but I will happily strip a stanger of his last credit for an outfit that looks utterly stupid on him and is outrageously overpriced. That is, after all, the way the real fashion industry operates.

If you've never undertaken destroy missions, I recommend starting a combat character on another server and undertaking a few. Once you see how ridiculously easy it is to get money in this game and how absurdly rich the combat professions really are, it may ease some of your qualms about charging a premium price for the fruits of your hard labor.

Of course, in response I have 4 words for you:

Good Capitalism. Bad Business.

You go right ahead and develop a reputation for overcharging. I charge "reasonable" prices. Other than the hotpants someone mentioned which have actually dropped significantly in demand anyway, my prices are not "cheap" but not "gouging" by any means. I don't get complaints, I get complements on prices and services and tons of tips. Yes, I get tons of tipped cash for the work that Nyjae and I put into our clothing and sales.

Good Capitalism, Good Business.

The law of supply and demand is extremely important, but they have a word for overusing it: Scalping.

The problem I have with all of this complaining is that everyone thinks everyone else is undercutting (on the tailor boards) but has no idea what the items should be worth, and everyone thinks everyone else is gouging (on the Flurry server board for example). People sell the items based on what they think they're worth. If people knew the price that would be one thing. But I havn't seen even one person suggest a pricing scheme that everyone can aggree upon. I have my own pricing scheme based on a 10% revenue over cost (scaled based on tailoring skill) method. But according to what's listed as suggested prices I come up way under for tailoring 1 items and about even on masterwork (Actually I can't make any tier 2, just all of the tier 1, so I havn't had an oppertunity to adjust the scaling factor). Our profession is one of the rarest and toughest professions to lvl in (Because of the low resource cost for all of our wares) and thus, we can as professionals dictate our prices. The economy is new, so alot of this is just the first sale blues, but to whine about undercutting is foolish. I seriously doubt that when there are a large number of master tailors, there will be any serious conserns, because they just won't be able to afford to go hunting to supplement their income (not enough skill points) so because of costs incured trying to stay alive hunting without any real skill, they won't be able to comphensate, and will just have to sell their items for more.

But I'll adjust my prices when the tailoring community is willing to accept a common layout. But keep in mind, if you whereanother, non-tailor character, you'd have to buy your items. If a good (Non-Armor) outfit made of tier 1 and below items costs as much as a suit of armor, (Which has stableized on many servers) at around 20-30K, which are you gonna wear?

Just as a point of note, in a month or two. all this will be a mute. Since clothes don't decay, like everything else, the market will be saturated. As it is now, there are tons of tailors around you'll have to resort to other things to make money.

I just wanted to remind you all that when I created this thread I was mad about somebody selling a 100 unit schematic for reinforced fiber panels for 2k on the bazaar. That is just ludicrous. THis has become an interesting thread and after reading it i may lower my prices a bit. Right now I think it costs me 1.25c per resource so I am making good money charging 7k for a gunmans duster but I can definitly move more for 3-5k, interesting.
