Thread: My behind-the-scenes post on the socketing situation and tailoring morale

Perhaps I'm not clear on the socket changes.

The inference is that items were always cranking out with 4 sockets. I've been a Master Tailor for 7 months of the 9 since release (and I role-played every step of the way from Novice Artisan to Master Artisan to Master Tailor, and not 1 ounce of grinding). I have never experienced 'always getting 4 sockets'. I do get 4 sockets more often than not... in general, I get 4 sockets 1/3 of the time. Some schematics NEVER give me ANY sockets, regardless of materials or circumstances. That struck me as the bug... as a MASTER Tailor, I sort of figured getting full sockets about 35% of the time was about right for the effort I'd put in to learning the skill.

I haven't been crafting in a couple of weeks... so I haven't experienced any changes as of yet. And now I'm very leery of doing so.

Is this true? doh! you still seem to have one of the best stocked clothing vendors around. I've been there several times. I've bought quite a bit of armor from you and sent others your way too, although mainly under the name of my other character You make great stuff.

Thank you for continuing to push this.

I have made it a point to meet as many tailors on my server as possible. Many of them know I have greatly reduced my activity as a tailor. I check their vendors when I am around to get new ideas for color combos, or just different looks. I have noticed a large reduction in almost all tailor vendor items since this change happened. There are many that never come to the boards, and it seems they have just decided to leave the profession. Keep fighting.

lol, I had around 900 items on the normal clothing vendor at my peak, and it's slowly been wearing down. But man, every time I get a hundred e-mails at once with the "auction unsuccessfull" message I'm tempted to delete the vendor right there and then. I really should check it and my wookiee wear vendor to see if they have the stock to justify being on the world map , I've been lazy unfortunately and barely pay attention to them anymore. (bad merchant! bad!)

And thanks for the compliment, and the business , gotta warn you tho, stock is probably going to be running short for the next few weeks. I've been working on psg's and holy cow have they sucked up waaay more time then I anticipated. My time, and factory time. My stock of ubese segments is almost out, and it'll take a couple days before my factory finishes psg's, and then probably a week or so to get kinetic layers and new segments made beforeI can make any new ubese . Gonna be some empty armor vendors soon , I feel guilty already. (on a brighter note tho, I have better quality leathery hide for my next batch of ubese, And 11 experiment point now(9mill for 6 points of armor experimentation in the last month )).

hmm, and since this is a clothing thread and my armor talk has no business here...

And what's up with calling the way we got sockets a bug?!?!?!? If the way something works is benevolent, and it's been that way for 8 freaking months, then it's a FEATURE! not a bug! If it was a bug then it god damned should have been fixed in freaking july!!!1!!11!!!one!!!111!

When you only do BE items having to constantly remake in order to aquire 4 sockets tends to get seriously expensive, sockets under 3 dont sell and sockets over 3 are now coming to rare to keep at it, tailor break for the moment for me to rethink why i am doing this and if it continues to be viable and worthwhile.

Being the travelling tailor, I've defintely seen a decline in my business, most of which were walk-up customers. I still do a fair amount of sales through the bazaar but the fact that the /tells have slowed down is telling me we may not have much of a future left and that really makes me sad.
When the game launched I was excited to become a DE. Since I had to do Domestic Arts to get Master Artisan I played around with the things I could make. And I started to get excited when I got new clothing schematics and eventually decided I wanted to be a Tailor instead. One of the few reasons I've stuck with it is being able to change my wardrobe whenever I want.
I really feel we are becoming an endangered species that is facing extinction.

Alright, I haven't weighed in on this issue before, and that's because I finally figured it out. I finally have a vendor on a populated world, close to a city, and I have only sold to two customers who were not guild members, the answer is so simple. I haven't bothered to remake a single item due to sockets. I think this is probably the reason behind my lack of success (It MAY be because I just have a poor eye for design. if any of you fine tailors are on Ahazi and would give me a brutally honest appraisal of the outfits I have on display, I'd appreciate it tremendously!). Am I wrong because I refuse to deal with this?

I'm sorry but Master Tailors should not ever get zero sockets in an item, nor should have many with just one or two sockets. Master Tailors SHOULD be getting 3 to 4 sockets the majority of the time.

I agree totally, what's funny is I have dropped tailor on my main and decided to master tailor on my alt, since she's the merchant. As soon as I reached novice tailor, the very first jacket I made had 3 sockets. Why a novice tailor can have the same results as a master tailor is plain dumb. As it stands now there is no reason for me to waist skill points on mastering tailor since most of the clothing I make is in the field wear line, and apparently I can get the same socket results at novice.

This whole bug fix would have beenAWESOME if it was done closer to launch. As it is now I price my enahanced clothes based on stats + sockets, so for example a +25 injury +25 wound treatment item with no sockets would be $50k, but the same item with 4 sockets would be 54k, (1k per socket).

This would have been a great way to sell clothes IF,

1. There were'nt millions of 4 socketed clothes out there already with no decay set in place.
2. Experimenting for sockets was an option, vs. the roll of the dice, with more experiment points added the closer you get to master, and/or the ability to make 4 socket clothing was only at master level.

Just a thought from a frustrated tailor.

it should be hard to get 4 sockets...

it should be based on resources and skill level

tailor is the easiest crafting out there as it is...if an item is no good throw it away...its not like you are wasting rare and expensive materials like all the other professions...

if yuou ask me clothes shouldnt have sockets for magic gems in the first place...all this magic +5 X crap should be removed from the game....i am sick of having putting on my magic clothes and drinking my magic potion just to do normal stuff

to me tailoring is about the clothes....the vibrant colors and vast selection. Sockets are still a mystery for me, im too po' for all these skill thingies i hear about anyway.
