I always feel like it goes in streaks. Unfortunatley it seems that I have bad streaks whenever the 4 socket item is requested.
Other times when I could care less, maybe dressing a vendor, I get all 4 sockets.
LOL

/agree

I have wasted so many 4 socket items on my vendors LOL

I've given up on taking orders for specific sockets unless it is one of my very close friends who agrees in advance to pay me for the total number of items and more importantly agrees to listen to me curse while i try LOL

Here is some quick data on flex form shirts. I only made 50 total, so I need to do more tests to improve the statistics. I use 15 rated tools and a 43 rated station.
+100 clothing assembly
0 sockets - 0%
1 socket - 8%
2 sockets - 52%
3 sockets - 28%
4 sockets - 12%
+120 clothing assembly
0 sockets - 0%
1 socket - 8%
2 sockets - 40%
3 sockets - 24%
4 sockets - 28%
I need to make at least 50 more.

I can do some tests later tonight, want any kind of specific clothing item?

Hmm... You could make anything that has been tested in this thread or go back and try to repeat the old experiments that I did using ribbed shirts (its like grinding all over again! ) and tactical skinsuits.

no ribbed shirts I don't think I've made any since I mastered

Looks more and more like it's random. I still think they've based it on the wrong mod... probably CH pet skills.. j/k

Seriously though, when sockets are nowso important, it's a nightmare. Char's that can't wear armor are the ones truly being hurt by this.

Maybe as a community we need to just set up a thread with volunteers to do a set number of specific items (different items for each volunteer) and post results. That would seem to give the most varied mix of participants. I'd be game and I'm sure others would be as well. We could even use only masters or varied levels and it would showany server differences. I don't know.. maybe set variables such as a group of masters with master artisan and a group without artisan.. then maybe groups of varied levels of tailor. Or we could just set the number of attempts to be tracked and specify the items and have those who chose to help out post the item they've decided to work with and then list their skill levels.

There's a slew of items to dole out and that would definately give some hard data from a differnt perspective. At least, it sounds good in my scattered brain.

Just an idea~~

I could not get one item to get a socket last night. I needed to make a couple 4 socket items for a customer, and literally couldn't even get a 1 sokcet item. I probably made 40 items trying. I finally got ONE casual jacket to stick two sockets but that was for something else, and I jsut gave up for the night.

I am only 4422 tailor is that of any relelvance?

I have knocked out 4 socket items before at this level but I am wondering if item complexity has anything to do with it?

Your 4 socket items, are they artisan items and do you have 4400 artisan? because4400 artisan is enough to get 4 sockets on the artisan made clothing items.

with 4422 tailor i dont recall ever getting 4 sockets to be honest. Your assembly is only +50, where a master tailors is +100 this is bound to have some impact.

Just a theory

Last night i brought my total upto 100 on items (will eventually bring it to 1000 with and without)

So far with 100 items, 15FR crafting tool 44 station and NO assembly worn:

0: 6%

1: 15%

2: 28%

3: 33%

4: 18%

EDIT: ive not stuck to one item, rather ive been making items as i allways do and when i have made the item i write the result down, be it making uniform for my new vendors, custom orders, whatever, its not one specific item repeatedly. However i will eventually be going through 1000 items like this, with and without my assembly being worn, which should give enough range of items to rule out much complexity difference between my with and without results. And perhaps give a different result to what you've been doing with same items to 40/50 results.

your results aren't far off from mine at all... I wonder if the random number generator that decides on the sockets really has a normal distribution, although that would make sense

It's the 2 socket area that really bothers me... as a MASTER TAILOR, your chances of getting 4 sockets SHOULD be much higher than it currently is. Especially if you purchase the best equipment and that force assembly should count for something (though I never crit fail anymore). In other words that 2 socket percentage should really be switched to the 4 socket... no one wants 2 socketed items.

i was making 2 peices of wookie clothing for someone last night, one needed 12 hide and 4 polymer. So i made literally around 30 peices and could not get EVEN ONE with 3 sockets, forget about 4. It Kept coming up with No Sockets, occasionally 1 socket, and maybe 3-4 with 2 sockets.

Same with me on the wookiee weighted hood but that is because I do not have engineering 4 and you cannot get 4 sockets onthe artisan clothing line without engineering 4.

I decided to do mine on something that doesn't take up components or hide, so I did link-steel reinforced gloves since I have lots of spare chem and metal. for the record I'm using 14.91 crafting tools, and 43.591866 (O.o) crafting station. I have 100 clothing assembly, had crafted some other stuff before this from restocking, and sat on my YT1300 modular seating for the duration of the test

here are the results, out of 100:

sockets - occurrences
0 - 3
1 - 19
2 - 26
3 - 34
4 - 18

from these numbers it looks like a slightly shifted normal distribution. interestingly enough, I didn't get the 0 sockets until around the middle of the latter half of the experiment... when I paused at 50 I had no 0 socket gloves.

I wonder if the complexity of the clothing item has anything to do with the amount of sockets (link-steel reinforced gloves has 15 complexity). I might do more tests on another clothing item later, but that might require me to make a few factory runs first... and boy, this is tiring

oh, btw... I just noticed the original poster mention research center. this gives a bonus to experimentation, so it technically shouldn't help sockets
