Thread: When you became a master tailor you did what ?
The next day, I moved from outside of Coronet, to North of Theed. A med Naboo house, the large was just too large. And have since been decorating it with my own named furnitures. I had to learn novice Architect for this, but I am well pleased with the training, I'll drop it later. And now I feel like I have embarked on a new road, not just the end of one. The end of the Novice Tailor grinding days. And the begining of Master Tailor day to day work has begun. Setting up new resource suppliers on a new planet, establishing a new pool of customers, and meeting my local neighbors. In a day or two when I finish decorating my house, which is strickly a residence, there are no materials or crafting stations, I will host a party with my entertainer friends.

you made master and gave up? why did you become master? hehe the idea is not to say, ''ah there! Im a master. done! I quit'' I made master and ...wel...now I make clothes. get it? I became a tailor to run clothing shops, I own 3 in 3 different cities. That's the idea, especially when mixed with the merchant profession. what were you expecting from master tailor?
Kirrnas writes '' i suspect more than a few I wondered what happened after you reached this goal''
wondered? make clothing...i think its explicit in the profession. I think people thought perhaps achieving a master craft profession would unlock a force slot or give them the power to craft star destroyers. Im just not sure what people expected. Make master..make master level items and everything on the list.
here's the real deal... I se many people blur to master and make lousy items. Master weaponsmith is a great example. Yep, they grinded / exploited their way quickly to the top. without a single clue as to what theyre doing. Given thought to which types of resources you use? optional items? their quality? I finally found a master smith to make me a ryyk blade that blows everyone's mind. its probably the most powerful melee weapon on the server. Why? because he knows what he's doing. don't just master the skills...be the best master ...and you can ply your trade. The profession *doe* begin at master when you want to be a craftsman and ply your trade...and well.
Have to agree with Songe.. *grins*
I've been loving it. No more grind, no more desperate scramble for cash to fund the last bit of the grind. I'm newly able to sit back, enjoy making some of the game's most interesting garments (I still get a kick out of the gradient effect on those grand ball gowns), and do mostly custom work. Since most of my early friends were entertainers (I made a name for myself by dancing in the cantina with novice tailor tag on, an excellent way to advertise), most nights there's a small gathering of dancers and musicians in the house -- which I've recently upsized partially for this reason -- and the customers love lingering to listen to music while looking at the various wares.
Now, I'm working on actually getting a decent array of stock in the vendor, and rearranging the showroom a little. And remembering to set my tag as Uniform Marshall, which does indeed confuse everyone and cut down on the tells. It's a lot of fun. *beams*
I have switched gears from making custom orders (still do a little) to making Bulk Uniforms for PA's. All factory made, no tedious making 100 pair of pants by hand. I will be moving into Nalinya's PA hall when she gets one. I am also saving up for a fusion plant, 2 deep crust extractors, and 2 heavy mineral extractors.
AlsoI figured the secret to making items in a wearables factory with little fuss. I will post that in a separate thread though. ![]()
I switched on my master tailor title and immediately got orders (in fact, I had some people waiting on me to hit the title so I could make things for them; I was probably among the first ten to a dozen masters on Lowca), and I haven't stopped filling them since. So I made money and I'm still making it. I'm not filthy rich, probably, by SWG standards, but if there's something out there that can be bought, I can probably afford it.
My only problem now is finding time to do the other things I like to do in SWG, dance and shoot a pistol.
Having talked to other master tailors, I knew that I might well get swamped with orders. So I only told my guildies, and a few close friends, and made them stuff. I didn't turn on my title. For an entire week I stocked materials (told suppliers they were for "grinding") and ran schematics night and day. By the next weekend, I started putting a few master items on the vendor, and the orders then started to trickle in, but I had stocked up on everything I would need and I was ready... with crates and crates and crates of synth panels.
I still have a normal life, hanging out in the cantina, doing the occasional custom order, and spending maybe an hour a day stocking.

I had a few people already waiting, so as soon as i hit, i made some items for close friends, then notified them and put up the title.
i haven't been swamped since, but i have those spurts where it's like 3 customers at a time for a few hours, then it settles down again. I made some stuff for some of the local entertainers and they've been advertising for me in their travels so i've had a fairly constant but not overwhelming stream of customers since.
i originally had 2 houses, 1 small tatooine 1 small generic, so this past week i found a large at a lower price than i had been getting quotes for so i picked it up, packed up my other 2 and managed to squeeze this one in their spot.I thenproceeded to make1 ofallof the more requested items to put on display.i don't typically have too much on the vendor at any given time, i actually prefer to do most of my orders custom, it's been paying off for me with regards to repeat and new customers.
As soon as I got Master Tailor, I logged out, took a deep breath, and said, "Yay, now I don't have to play Galaxies all day!" True story.
What I've done since then, though? Crafted. Tried to keep stuff in stock. I'm gonna get Master Merchanteventually, in hopes that the Merchant tree gets un-borked soon. That's pretty much it. Works for me. I haven't yet felt the need to take up a new profession.
I promptly thanked the Master who trained me - who I ironically met 2000m from town on a mission after having given up finding one after nearly ten hours of watching my friends list (I know five or six), shuttle-hopping and /whoing, and checking every clothing store on the planet map.
Then I immediately left for Talus, because as he correctly warned me (he had just hit Master earlier in the day and the shock was still wearing off), the new schematics require a mass of Wooly Hides that just aren't reasonable to acquire on my homeworld. I sent a mail to the Master Droid Engineer I've been running free Composite Armor Segments from telling him I wouldn't be able to help him much more, if at all; those things take seven bloody hours, and my factory needs to run nonstop just to keep up with my requirements.
While hunting on Talus for hides - both the conventional kind, and bazaar/shop hopping - I spent a lot of time planning how to balance out my harvesting needs with regards to my available lots and the stuff my suppliers regularly stock. Really should've looked at those schematics beforehand to figure out what I'd need - I never imagined needing so many of those obnoxious jewelry settings for items that include no traces of jewelry.
At this point, I'm just starting to REALLY hit my groove as a Master Tailor. I can't even imagine what it's like for the people who didn't even have a shop, factory, and customer base built up beforehand, they might never get their heads above water if they're trying to do it all by custom orders on the fly. Guess that's a small reward for those of us who actually pursued tailoring as a career and not a one-week power grind...
I'm filling out my Merchant tree, begrudingly accepting many of my hard-won combat skills will have to go. Actually, I'm thinking about ditching the lot of them (what's the use in being half a fighter when it takes a full-timer to drop even the starter planet's worst aggros?) and picking up Armormsith, but it seems that's bugged beyond repair for the moment. Kind of disappointing.
If it weren't for having a dozen twi'leks a day come to me and beg to let them pay me for the priviledge of making them half-naked, I'd probably give up the ghost. As long as I've got that going for me, though, I've got no right to complain...
