Thread: The reason why Tailors are hard to find!
So sorry you had a bad experience with those people. I no longer set my title to master either, but somehow that doesn't seem to stop people from asking me "Are you master tailor?" and being a wuss, I always say yes! If they start requesting things I let them know I am doing other things at the moment and would be happy to get an email from them detailing what they would like etc ... works 50% of the time!
The other 50% (and this happened all in the last 2 weeks and cracks me right up)goes something like ....
1) I want a jacket ..... now starts the 10 emails back & forth pulling info out and vague descriptions trying to figure exactly what they want.
2) 'I need it now' ... 'Sorry I'm tied up at the moment' ... 'Well fine then I'll just get it from another tailor who ISN'T too busy' ... *thinks to self good luck with that* ... several hours later or next morning receives email.
3) 'Can you make me some clothes?' ... 'Yes, what would you like?' ... 'I want to dress up like a storm trooper so make me a stormtrooper costume.' ... ' I can't make that. I think you're thinking of the Clone Armor and that's a quest.' ... /sarcarm 'I know it's armor, but I don't want armor, I just want regular clothing that looks like it for Halloween!' ... 'There's no such thing hun.' ... 'Well you're not much of a tailor are you!' *idiot runs off, I laugh & shake my head*
4) 'I want such and such an item' ... 'I can't make that sorry, it's not craftable in game yet.' ... 'Why?' *takes deep breath before replying* 'I don't know, you'll have to ask the dev's sugar' at least X5 this week alone
There's more of them but I haven't had my 2nd cup of coffee to kick them all in yet, but hope these made you laugh ![]()

My secret is that I now only do on-the-spot orders in the roleplay cantina. Roleplayers are very generous and know exactly what they want. They are a dream to work with.
Ahh nice Jess -- never thought of that. We have one group of entertainers who roleplay on Naritus...
When I do get people asking about clothes, I try to tell them the price up front. Amazingly, not too many people complain. (I'm pretty high for our server since I'm still using Nivea's pricelist!
Otherwise, don't let the idiots bother you. The vast majority of customers appreciate it when you spend time on them.
I used to hang out in Coronet and sew for the general public.
Iusually just depend on my vendors. I keep them fully stocked at all times, so I am usually busy restocking those when I am on.
Yeah, my views the same.

I hate when someone wants me to meet them.
I tell them they want the clothes not me, if they want them they can come to me.
95% of the time I am online.. I am in my shop restocking and have my tag up. So if I get a tell for an item I usually just have them come to my shop. I never meet them, they have to meet me. I don't carry around a ton of supplies, I keep them in my shop. Usually what they want is on my vendors already, I double check and tell them if it is.
I've rarely had anyone not pay or complain about my prices, if they do complain it's usually to tell me I'm too cheap..when I'm not really...somethings are, but some are not.
I happily do custom orders, and or custom fittings. For Ithorians, and those who don't know what they want I often send them to TKFashions, that site is a lifesaver! Once you get them to use TKFashions, they will often refer to it for future custom orders.
I love being a tailor, headaches and all, it makes me feel great to overhear someone in my shop compliment the selection or telling their friends they look great.
I have been a tailor for 2 years now, and I have to say I STILL love doing it.
I try to never take off my master tag, and I make myself searchable whenever I'm in cities (if I remember).
I've had my share of the annoying customers who ask for 'something cool, you decide' and then don't like anything I've made. I found a way to stop that tho...When they ask for something cool, I tell them, "I think pink hawtpants are super cool" and then they either laugh and get a pair, or they give me more input on what they want.
I've actually switched to mainly custom orders because I have so much fun doing it. I've found that when I'm busy hunting, I can tell people that, and either they come to me, or wait until I take a break. Since I'm not worried about where my next credit is going to come from, I don't worry about the 'runners'. I do usually get paid in tips more than enough to make up for the few that stiff me.If I am having them try on an outfit, I'll trade it to them, or put it on myself so they can see the colors, otherwise I wait until I get the email/tip before doing the accept.
