One way to figure out where a resource is (and maybe even buy yourself a stack of it) is to look on the Bazaar's "Galactic" setting, then look for the resource and where people are selling it. Of course, it's imperfect - there might be plenty of it on, e.g., Naboo, but nobody happens to be selling it on the Bazaar at the moment - but better than hopping a bunch of shuttles to planets at random....
