Thread: The Law of Unintended Consequences
no, you're wrong (I say that with confidence). My former PA was nearly 100% composite armor wearing. Although they were allegidly PVP, they were 99.9% PVE (read 99.9% combat xp grinders) and they simply wore armor because it offered the greatest protection, and never took it off. I'm assuming that it was because clothing was just an extra thing to store, and because of the hassle of having to buff to get armor back on, but that's just speculation. The important thing to realize is that they never did take it off. This just gives them all the more incentive to never take it off
I don't buy the realism argument either. The only way that would add to the immersion at all would be if there was a very detailed animation giving you a feel for the rigors of taking off/putting on armor and we don't have that (thank gawd). Nope, this is just simply a nuisance and a time sink for those who wear armor, and a crushing balance issue for tailors.

Alternatively, since it is so hard to get into and out of armor, the incentive for the non-PvP power gamer to wear armor goes down. It mandates using buffs to fight which are inconvenient (waiting 20 minutes in line in coronet), and you can not just jump out of the suit to regenerate after combat which slows down non-buffed players. As such, the sale of BE enhanced clothing might go up as well, as casual PvE players don't want to mess with armor as much, but still want something useful to wear around when fighting.
I'm not saying I'm right, and I'm not saying you're right. However, unintented consequences go both ways. Until it hits live with the "real" player base, who can say what the consequences are. I can easily imagine tailor sales hitting an all time high...

*digs out crystal ball* I see many more people putting IDs on the friends list to get their stats migrated every time they buy new armor. I see more people shopping for lowest encumbrance instead of highest resists. I see more people never taking off their armor if there's so much as a glimmer of a chance they will be forced overt (heh, yeah, I don't PvP so I don'tknow the difference between overt and TEF). I see more people buying the best BE clothes they can get their hands on. I see the price of BE tissues going up again. (If you can find a BE not specializing in Chef tissues only) I see more people with combat droids and pets again. I see more people picking up novice medic again to stay alive till they get their armor on again. (I stim after each lair too. Or during, if I get a whole mob aggro'd instead of the single I tried for) I see... chaos.
On my tailor char, combat is such a rare thing, I keep my Ubese in one droid and my Composite in another. If I know I am going to be somewhere dangerous, I suit up before I leave the house. But if I am out in the wild and get attacked... oh yeah. Call droid... Ooops. Can't. Under attack. I'm dead. Okay, so carry armor in inventory. Get scanned. I definitely am carrying contraband. Get yer Overt Imp here! Yikes! Call pet. Attacked. /tellpet ATTACK! Hit armor macro. Stand there one minute naked. *watches gurrcat run away* Ooops. I'm dead. Nevermind. I can think of several scenarios where Q would be dead before she ever got so much as a glove on.
On my combat char... I never take off her armor now as it is. Straight PvE, but I've been too lazy to sit in a tent and wait for an ID to come along to do a stat migration. I don't have enough free time to play to wait that long. I just used a little spice and a little food and a little brandy, put it on and never took it off again. For now. If I ever do get her stats migrated, I'd still keep her armor on all the time. One minute exposure would equal death at her current level of skills. Maybe after she gets Master TK and flamethrower 4... maybe then I'd risk walking around in a dress. Heh.
Okay, so they want to add to the strategy and realism of combat. I understand that logic. But it just seems every time they try to add to those two areas, it just makes the game less fun, harder, irritating. Not more fun. And on that note, I go off to relist 2000+ items that just rolled over to stockroom on my tailor vendors. /sigh
