answer to #5... I'd sugest being a human, benefits are you can wear most everything (even more for females) meaning... you get to try on a whole bunch of new stuff!!!! WOOHOO!!!!

Also, you get that bonus to artisan experimentation so if you want to toy around with other stuff you have a foot in the door there. Other than those points.

And welcome to tailoring if you so choose to do so.

I took a month long break from the game since I could never find anything I really liked. I tried tailor once before and liked it but I didn't have time to really craft my way to any of the real cool clothes. So now I am going to come back and try again. I just have a few questions before I decide to go into it.

1. Should i take up a combat profession with it?

2. If the answer to number 1 is yes then what is a good

I find that All I really need with Tailor combat wise is a lvl 4 Brawler skills to fend off attacks while out surveying or at your harvestors...

Most Tailors I imagen spend there time in towns.

I have this setup myself

Master Tailor

Master ID

1 Handed 4 (It offers me dizzy)

Explore2 (Maskscent)

First Aid 1

Now if you arn't planning to Master a 2nd non combat prof like I did. I'd say pick a Brawler prof. They way you could get your own hides. I Buy mine to say time..

My setup is :

Master Tailor

Master Image Designer

Artisan 0/0/4/0

Merchant 3/0/4/4

With that i got 9 Vendors, 2750 item limit, clothable vendors, and all the important races (like Twilek and er... Twilek)

Ive never felt the need for combat skills, if i get attacked i just run, no need to fight them. Ive not even been incapped at all for about 6 months or so now. just keep your speeder close if your house isnt near

Until I was able to be self-sufficient as a Tailor, I had Novice Pistoleer. This allowed me to take decent level artisan missions (which are based on fighting skills for no apparent reason). If you find a resource site 1030 away that is 70% or higher you can just run back and fourth between the site and the artisan mission terminal. With a novice elite fighting profession you can make 50k+ in an hour this way. While that is slow compared to some missions, it is completely safe (no money spent cloning, buying medpacks, etc). Doing these missions funded my path to Master Tailor.

The only other reason I would suggest for having a fighting profession it to be able to get your own hide. A better way, though, in my opinion, is to join a collaborative guild. My guildmates keep me supplied well and I keep them dressed well

Ok, so I dropped Chef. I just didn't like it. Leave me alone!

I guess whether you need a combat prof is up to you, whether you mind taking large loops around angry mobs or facing the occational death or imcap. My tailor has no combat skills, but has only died once since I made her. She is also an architect and merchant, both are fun to play, but especially the tailor portion. If you were looking for a combat prof, like to master, I'd choose TK or swordman. Both are more than capable of handling their own in the wild/unruly cantina.

Personally I use the following template:
Artisan 4/4/4/0
Brawler 0/0/4/0
Tailor 4/4/4/4
Swordsman 4/4/4/4
Merchant 3/0/4/1 (I'll be dropping the 1 to get 4/4/0/0 instead)

I'd really recommend getting Swordsman, it's really great for PvE. With this merchant I only get 3 vendors, but that enough since I only use 2 vendors for Misc. Stuff, and 1 for people to pick up their custom orders.
Having Swordsman means that If I'm ever bored or am not getting enough customers, i can always grab a buff and do some missions to earn money. And I think I would go out of my mind if I had to constantly stock a vendor, so I only do custom orders. This frees up alot of my time, which I spend on Guild-hunts and such(Means I save money on hides )

Master Smuggler

Master Tailor

Pistoleer 0040

These are the two professions I enjoyed most when I was trying out various professions ove the last year. I used to have merchant skills instead of the pistoleer, but dropped them in favor of the pistol skills so I could always run combat missions if I wished to do so.

I am currently reworking an alt that serves as my merchant.

My tailor alt is Master Tailor, Master Dancer, Merchant 0440. I run around agros alot to get to my harvesters and such, but just picked up a old republic blaster (the no cert kind) so I can at least shoot things. Used to have one handed 4 and it does work well for yard trash type critters. Also if there is too bad of a spawn near my factories I just get someone in my guild, or the new hubby to come kill it for me.

However my main is pike/doc so when I want to kill things I use her. If I didn't have two characters I definetly would have combat skills with my tailor. Fencer and pistol are ok to dabble in , but pike and swords are much more efficent at master level. Couldn't tell you on ranged profs, never liked them enough to master them.
