Thread: So, you CAN make awesome clothes, you just dont?

I completely agree that I would rather see more clothes for the rest of us. THat is exactly the argument I made to Greenmarine, and I pointed out that if tailors got tons of Ithorian wearables and absolutely nothing for anyone else after 14 months, they were going to be unhappy - and not see how cool the Ithorian wearables are but rather focus on what we didn't get. If I had to allot resources for 100 new schematics, 40 would have been Ithorian, 60 would have been for the rest of us.

However, this is space. It's a different project. Space gets new subscribers, tailoring changes don't. So space gets more time/budget. See? It's not as if art resources would have been devoted to our wants and needs instead of the Ithorian stuff, it's not an either/or. We have to think of Ithorian garments as part of the space expansion, and not a "tailor upgrade" or what tailors want with the game, because that's just not the case. It's hard, but we have to separate expansion resources from upgrade resources.

If we had gotten fewer Ithorian wearables, would we have gotten more art time devoted to what we really want? Probably not.

So yeah, if I had my way, I'd redirect the art department to allot resources differently. But I'm not in charge. I don't think this is a case of the devs missing the boat on what we want. It's a case of us getting some Ithorian schematics, incidental to an expansion. And it's a case of a developer, out of the kindness of his heart, staying late at work and coding stuff that isn't part of the expansion, is beyond the call of duty, and it wasn't our turn to get.

I agree that it sucks that we don't get art department resources. I agree that it sucks that space stuff takes priority over what we consider to be huge issues. And I'm probably taking this a bit too personally because I feel like this is a victory for us, not a negative thing.

Where do we go from here? Well we still demand what we want. We ask for bug fixes, and new content. At least we can cross the "loot schematics" of the list.

I'm glad Greenmarine went to bat for us, I really am. But I don't agree it's not our turn. It's been our turn, for at least eight months, by my rough estimation. And the turn of dancers, and every other forgotten profession out there.

What it boils down to is I'm grateful to individuals. I'm not grateful to a corporation that consistently ignores an important portion of its player base, and sets policies that apparently institutionalize that neglect.

The proof for me will come over the next few months. Now that they no longer have JTLS as an excuse for doing zip, will they actually do something for neglected professions? I'd like to think they will. But I'm so jaded with these guys that I'm truly afraidit's going to be "after we fix the bugs in JTLS," or "after the combat rebalance." It's all starting to sound like "after the SecondComing." If I'm wrong in my cyncism, I'll be absolutely fricking delighted for everyone to come here and say, "we told to so!" But I'm depressingly sure that my suspicion is justified.

GreenMarine is the best. He is the only developer that us smugglers trust anymore. He actually seems to care and try to make this game a good product. I think he is pretty connected to the game. Not to say the other devs are useless its just greenmarine does a great job.

In the beta, there were Ithorians all over the dang place. You couldn't take a step without stepping on an Ithorian. I foresee a big market for Ithorian clothing and armour. Ture, it might be a little slow to start, but when all those pre-orders hit live on the 27th, I bet a bunch of them are Ithorians.

I'm very happy that we have new human wearables. But I am disappointed at the reasons we've been given for not getting any new clothing over the past year anda half. We'd been told that adding clothing was extremely time-consuming and very tedious. Okie, that's fair and I can live with that. But then they turn around and, in a matter of a few weeks, come up with entire body-length outfits for Jedi that vary with the Jedi's rank and whether or not he or she is light or dark! To top it all off, Ithorians are receiving an entirely new wardrobe! And not only is it new--it has lots of palette blending, neat patterns, and interesting designs!

To clear things up: I'm not upset that we only received two new items. In fact, I'm ecstatic! But it rubs me the wrong way that the "clothing is tough to do and it's very time consuming" response wasn't as true as they wanted us to believe it was. After all, we've seen the wonderful clothing they've been able to design when things were really coming down to the wire. It just saddens me a little that the smallest fraction of that effort wasn't given to us during the year and a half leading up to the expansion.

That could be true! And I certainly wouldn't mind having a lot of Ithorian guinea pigs to model clothing for me. But the difference between the beta and live servers is that you can have three characters in the beta. Live servers are limited to one--and unless you join a completely new server or unlock your second character slot, you can't take advantage of this new species on your "main" server. That will be a very large drawback for many people.

My original point was that clothes don't have to be boring, and can have depth and character... two days ago, I wouldn't have know, wouldn't have cared, things are good. It's seeing what CAN be done, but never was done for the mainstream clothing, that was disappointing. They've had the ability, but haven't applied it.

On the schematic it says "wearable by most humanoids" so, to me, that means most humanoids. It should be corrected to "wearable only by."

I wasn't expecting anything new with this pub. I would have been content going on as I had been. It was seeing all of those beautiful clothes, cool clothes, interesting patterns and textures, and realizing that we could all have those kind of clothes, but the devs aren't thinking.

Oh don't forget the pocketed vest we got. [14 months with no new decent looking items to make] I've held on for that long and beta 2. Still I'm talked down to like some 2nd class profession.

I am HAPPY we got the looted schematics to craft. I love the new Ithorian clothes. Last night I went and put the Mayoral Robe and the Padded Vest in orange on 2 of my vendors like I have been wanting to do since I put them up. And I made an female Ithorian vendor and put an orange Priest Robe and Religious Hat on her. It's great I think. I totally understand that this is in for the space expansion and I think it was really great they took time away from that to give us the looted clothing schematics too. Yay for the Hooded Cloak and Revealing Skirt! And for putting all the Wookiee schematics in one spot in my crafting tool. Yay for that! Yes I am jealous though at how sci-fi the Ithorian clothing is. Hopefully in the future we will get some sci-fi loving too.

to be honest i was surprised that the OTHER crafters got fairly nothing compared to us..

I was really hoping archis would have new plant styles, those pure glass curved tables, or even the actual counter style tables....

Let chefs have a couple 'food in tubes' for fun....

And wouldn't it be neat to get a fighter helm from a armorsmith vendor...

So with what we got ( and actually since I had TONS of these loot clothing as collection for auch a long time)

I am very pleased they kicked us some crumbs...

and am happliy making bread pudding with it...

Mind you this doesn't change my wheres my master sockets, or the fact i want mylar on my own clothes.....

I agree with n'Jessi. It wasn't really any professions turn to get new content and we got, by tailor standards, a lot. Enjoy it.

There's not much we can do to show our gratitude for Green Marines effort, besides posting here. But maybe we could do something in-game, a special Green Marine outfit on display in our shops or something. And possibly an n'Jessi dress next to it. Good work.

A lot of times people don't think about details like clothes until they *have* to. From what I understand, the devs had created Ithorians and realized that since they have a different skeleton from the rest of the species, they had to have clothes for them. They did not want to create another Wookiee with no clothing, so they were forced to innovate and come up with a new system of making clothes. Now that they have this new method, maybe we can convince them to use the same techniques for clothes for the rest of us!

I love the new schematics!

How many other crafting professions have recieved new schematics? Especially schematics that weren't involved in some game update? The Loot-only or NPC-only items we've recieved are a gift, and I'm grateful.

It does stink that Ithorians have, by in large, a much cooler wardrobe than everyone else, but that's because they needed all new clothes. They can't wear the same clothes as everyone else because their body (their skeleton, wireframe, whatever) moves differently. (Which I believe is the same thing with Wookiees.)

I don't think I'm going to see a huge jump in Ithorians on the server. I highly doubt many people who buy JTL will re-roll their character just to take advantage of the new species.

I am excited by the fact that the Developers have come up with an easier way to make clothing. Maybe that means they can throw a couple new schemes our way every couple of patches. (Not looted or limited, please. Thanks.)

As far as the schematics requirements go, perhaps this is a way to bring Tailors back into the economy. I make clothing for people, a full outfit, and say, "4500 cr, please" and I get a bank tip of 45,000. Tailors are essentially entertainers now-- They provide a service that is totally out of the scope of the economy.

Based on the going rate for Hide on my server, and the way that most rangers and scouts only hunt large stacks of the best, I'm charging 22,000 credits for the Hawtpants.
