Thread: How do you drive business to your shop?
" I offered it to him for 300 --- he wanted to pay 1k. That complete boggled my mind! LOL"
That's the key right there, people can and will gladly pay a lot for items. No sense in only charging 300cr when you could easily be making 700cr more for the same items.
Raise your prices up so that your Tailoring pays for your Tailoring, not your missions paying for your Tailoring andconcentrate a bit more on word of mouth and you'll never do another mission again. It's been weeks since I've done a mission. ![]()
Or, in response to JennyDragon's .txt files idea, do what I do and write out your ad in a macro - then when you need to use it, just edit the macro and copy and paste (good for anyone who's machine doesn't handle the alt tabbing well )
Every item I sell on the bazaar has, in the description, "for more colours and a larger selection of clothing, visit Ayala's shop at /waypoint blah blah." It works very well, and I definitely noticed a huge drop off in sales the weekI didn't do it.
I think one of the best things you can do is send "follow-up" e-mails to your bazaar customers, with an attached waypoint to your shop. I know I greatly prefer having an actual waypoint to a location as opposed to having to navigate to a particular set of coordinates, which can be fiddly and annoying sometimes.
There is an easier way of keeping your ad on the bazaar for the full 7 days. If you set it as an auction instead of an instant sale, it will stay there because they can't claim it until the auction is up.
I use a simple shirt and set it for auction at 20 credits.
Reputation, commitment to my customer's needs, and about 14 hours a day online lol.
omg...I actually did learn something from my stint at the Gap when I was in my 20's ![]()
E.g., if you sell Hot Pants for 800 credits normally, list them at 799 on bazaar. You can tell which sales are which, and also get the well-known psychological benefit of a price that somehow seems a lot cheaper than it is to buyers....
You don't have to use macros or alt-tab to keep stuff on the clipboard.
Open Options. Click Interface. Click Keyboard Mapping (or whatever it's called). Click Chat. Scroll down and assign key combinations to Copy and Paste - I use shift-ctrl-C and shift-ctrl-V myself.
Now write a brief blurb in an email, something that will apply to all of your clothes, and email it to yourself. Now when you need to load it onto the clipboard, usually only once a day, you open your email, and reply to that email or forward it. Drag to highlight the blurb text, and copy it.
Now when you list an item on the bazaar, type the price, hit tab, paste, hit tab again, press enter.
I actually have three blurbs. I had to write a special one for trenchcoats, because women kept buying them - there's nothing in the default item description to suggest that they're gender-specific. And I have one that I use when I sell musical instruments encouraging the musicans to buy their perfomance clothes from me.
All blurbs include the url of my catalog web site (www.infamousbrad.com/swg) and the coordinates for my shop (specifically written as /waypoint 5915 5195 for the benefit of those who haven't discovered the /waypoint command yet).
I'm glad it's working out for you people, but I hate ad items on the bazaard. Nothing drives me further from a store than cluttering up the already cluttered bazaard with ads.
I prefer to just spread word through my interactions with customers, or with follow up emails to bazaar sales. A simple "By the way, you can get many items from my showroom at xxxx yyyy if I'm not around!" after a personal tailoring session usually does fine. Or simply offer them your "card" and email them the waypoint.
What we need to do is get a giant petition together or something to get on the Devs arses about offering us advertising solutions.
You know I had this problem too. I busted butt to get bustiers in casual 3 and I step into the cantina all happy, and leave crestfallen when every friggin dancer has a bustier on and spent all their money to buy them.
So, I figured, well, I've been grinding anyway...why not just give the stuff away (this is pre-practice days). Now before you other tailors get all get in an uproar. I would purposely pick out people still in their n00b clothing. I'd ask them if they'd like to get out of their n00b clothes, and of course many were very quick to take me up on the offer.
This is what resulted. One, those n00bs are now higher lvl players, with money and when I gifted them with the clothes I would tell them, just shop with me for all your clothing needs in the future. Bam! Loyal customers to the day I leave the server or the tailoring profession. Many would tip me what they could. So, no, I wouldn't get all the money I would have asked for, but I got some, and with some that I thought would be dirt poor actually would tip me a whole lot, like 2-3k much more than what the clothing I made for them would have come out to be. Not to mention getting eeking a bit of UXP, every little bit helps. Those players have grouped, met other people, etc. They spread good word of mouth for me. I've never advertised on the bazaar and I have a nice little business.
Even when I couldn't make something, but I was close, many would say, "I'll wait for you to make it." I have great customer loyalty.
So, pretty much, if you're gonna grind and lose the material anyway, just invest it instead, on a whole clientelle that is loyal to you.
I'm never for giving items away. I tried that very technique as a selling tool in beta, giving a free outfit to every Novice Entertainer that I found still in their noob clothes. For every grateful customer happy to buy from me in the future, I wound up with another who constantly expected free or ridiculously cheap clothes (even though I always made it clear that the freebies were one-time deals for new characters). And then I started getting random tells from other people who weren't new characters saying things like "Give me a free outfit like you gave my friend."
Now I do a large discount on any Domestic Arts level item for anynew character still in their original outfit. But I refuse to give away Tailor level items. Personally, I feel that it devalues my skill and the skills of the other Tailors in my area.
