How important is it to learn scouting to gather your own hides versus buying them. I know they can get expensive, and it's probably necessary to hunt them at low levels, but is it easier to buy them once you get high level tailoring started? What's everyone's reccomendation?

Buy them from scouts/ rangers, if they ask too much , then send a tell to the next guy.

I tell you what, i can get 4k hide in like 2-3 hours as a scout, and i have butt load of it in surplus. not all high quality.

If they are charging over 3-4 cpu then its too expensive.

better yet, go to the scout profession boards and post there your name, what server, how many hides you need and what you are willing to pay, i guarantee a response in 4-5 days, hell i bet the order gets filled in 4-5 days.

Tell em Mylo sent ya, hehe.

Well, what I've found is that I can go to the coronet bazar on my server and buy nice big stacks of hide at no more than 5cr/ea (and sometimes less), and that is my preferred method of getting hide. People bring me hide too, and I just let then know that I'll buy all they bring me at a set price (5cr/ea) so I get people doing that as well. It's pretty easy to price that sort of cost for hide into clothing.

If you are the type that likes to go on group hunts, then by all means, get a little hunting and it will be well worth it to you. One big hunt a week and you'll probably never need to buy any hide at all.

If you're thinking of just getting some hunting to do it here and there on your own, that is a bad way to get hide imho as you'll end up with all these tiny stacks all over the place and it creates storage nightmares for you and is not an effective use of your time unless you have really good combat skills (i.e. master or close to master of an advanced profession).

I do some hunting, but it's more "for sport" than for the business per se. I've pretty much gotten 80-90% of the hides I use by buying them, with a standard open offer I have to buy any hides people want to sell at 3 credits per hide. (Or in trade, which can be a good way to do it. I've met a lot of players who are cash-poor, but have a fair amount of hides in their inventory that they're glad to trade for my more expensive clothing.)

I wouldn't want an open offer to buy hides personally cause you'd end up with 1k of this type, 2k of another. 20 stacks of small amounts of different hides.

What I did was hunt hard core on dath with my alt during a time when a crappy leathery was spawning. Got a fair bit of that specific hide all on my own, and then I also bought any of it I saw at 3cpu on the bazaar ('s why I waited for a crappy leathery spawn). 've got over 100k of grind hide now and I will never, ever have to aquire hide again (for tailoring).

Nobody can argue with a stack of 100k of hide, lol, but actually the types of people that will bring you hide regularly, tend to be people that bring it in bulk. This is for the simple reason that it's not worth the transportation costs to bring small quantities.

It's rare that I get stacks of less than 5k which is generally bigger than the stacks you'll be able to get off the bazar. And of course much much bigger than a tailor marksman/scout dabbler is likely to get killing durnis or whatnot.

I don't mind small stacks all that much - I just generally try to use them up first when I'm doing a big round of restocking, and I've never had big storage problems. (And if I do, the first thing I do is one of those big rounds of restocking to get rid of the small stacks.)

The odd thing is, I don't have all that many people taking me up on the offer, and a bunch of those who *do* won't take my money and insist on just giving them to me! Which is nice and all, but I always feel a little guilty about it.

Does anybody else get this? I've gotten some *wonderful* gifts from customers, and I usually can't even reciprocate in market value with clothing, and the customers don't mind paying my regular prices anyhow! I guess it's a nice "problem" to have, though. And something nice and bio-enhanced can make a good reciprocal gift....

I'm having big storage problems.Got my tailoring components/resources in storage, my armorsmithing components/resources in storage, and Combat Medic components/resoures in storage.

I also am a packrat so I like to collect things like the krayt skull for my home , and I also have a few sample outfits in my showroom.

I have currently 2 houses full, 2 backpacks full, and 2 banks full . I need more storage *sob*.

Otherwise Imight nothave gone to the bother of gathering a whole brick of grind quality hide for myself either. Tho it is nice to have gotten it over with and never need to worry about it again .

7 houses, 1 factory (input and output). Granted only about half of that is mine, but you get the idea.

heh I need my harvesters too badly to get more houses . And I don't trust my factory for storage, lol, I just figure it'll up and poof stuff I store in it sooner or later. I suppose I'm being irrational, stuff in a house is as likely to poof as in a factory, but I still feel uncomfortable .

I've got nearly every resource, copper, aluminum, steel, iron, gems, polymer, fiber, oil, oats, wheat, fruits, inert gas, reactive gas, hides, bones, meat meat meat, etc... I have stacks and packs of it. All different kinds. I'm a packrat too. One of my friends just took 10k of the class 4 petro fuel that I had lying around. Rirboplaine I think it was. 950/950 quality. It was just gathering dust in my packs. I've got tons of resources that are like this.

I have crates of everything. input hoppers full, output hoppers full. BE clothcrates, regular crates, fasteners, shoe soles, etc. I've got medical crates, tissue crates, and so much adventuring booty that it looks like a garage sale.

5 houses full of this stuff. 2 factories. If you get scout to gather your own stuff, you'll collect it.... and it will gather fast. You can probably dump those scout skills after awhile. Don't bother picking up scout if you are not going to do this kind of adventuring. if you are a pure crafter, then be a pure crafter and enjoy not having to deal with the environment. Those scouts will bring it. 3cpu is all you need spend. It might take time to find enough to be fully and completely stocked, but if people know you will pay for hides, they will keep bringing them. Eventually you will have plenty!
