Gowic, thanks for standing up for the little guys, you did the right thing!

As for that jerk, he should be put on perma-ignore.

cloth schematic for free?? LOL If by free he meant paying me a bunch of credits sure but there is no way in hell I would do it for free. To top it off how is 2K even close to unreasonable? What a joke. I would put him on a permanent ignore list and get the rest of the tailors you know to do the same thing.

A lot of lower skill level tailors really depend on the credits that a few crates of synth cloth can bring in. I know I did! That guy was just being cheap.

I had an armorsmith argue with me that I should give him free schematics once and he was saying that he couldn't sell armor for the high prices I'd been hearing from everyone else for some reason. I explained to him that giving away schematics hurt my business and would let him quickly get to the point where he didn't need to depend on a tailor (this was back when factories were giving 100% xp, so with a enough 100 count schematics he could have gotten the TXP to just train up in tailoring himself).

He yelled at me for awhilebut then the next day I heard him selling armor at what I thought were outrageously high prices... and people were buying!

Wait til the idiot needs Reinforced Fiberplast Panels. Post his name here, I'll put him on my ignore list if he is on my server.

Not only did you do the right thing, you did the Right Thing.

I will only give schematics to a RL friend of mine. I won't make or sell them for others at any price, only the crates of the finished product.

What an interesting effect of the factory xp reduction, I had not thought about how it will HELP us by reducing the number of Armor Crafters who skill up Tailoring by purchasing schematics. Nice.

An armorsmith wanted to buy reinforced schematics from me today and asked for a quote. I wasn't sure what was a good amount so I said 50k and he was like, but I got 3 pieces of 1000-count schematics for 1k each.

Man, that really saddens me.

I think you did the right thing. I have sold a few schematics, usually at about 60% of what I would sell the finished product for (since I didn't have to use my resources, time, etc). At the time this was 2250 for a 25 run synth schematic, or 4k for a crate. Not sure what the prices are now.

I just sold a few here and there. When I realized that the resources had to be exact match I stopped selling them though, because I didn't want to sell someone something they would have extreme difficulty using (like exact matching the polymer and fiberplast).

Why shouldn't novice tailors sell cloth for 2k (honestly I think that is cheap)? Novice everyone-else's sell their stuff, or at the very least sell for much more later in their profession. People also tend to forget that 1000 or so per day factory maintenance that you keep paying whether you're making things or not. When I get people saying "well so and so will sell me this for xxx" I always ask them -- "So why didn't you already buy from him/her?".

The other effect of the factory exp reduction that I have seen is that the cloth market isn't so flooded now. People used to just make it as fast as they could since you got exp and you could sell a decent amount.

I think we should start keep some really old resources that are not available anymore and us them as a 'Flipooff Cloth'

Get some guy that INSIST that you give him a schematic. Make it out of the worst materials that are also no longer available and name it something stupid like "Idiot Retardant Cloth".
Then send them the schematic. Watch them try and use it, they want have the identical materials to put into the factory for it to work. :evil

Of course this will only work if I understand factories right. That you have to use the same material that the schematic was made from.

Oh, and make them 1 Cloth Runs. So even if he does get the ancient matrials he will only be able to make one cloth from it and it wont do him any good anyway.

I don't think I was being unreasonable just now, but I was asked to make a cloth schematic. I explained to the individual that it wouldn't be right for the younger tailors out there that rely on cloth for profit if I just burned schematics at no charge. After raving on and on about how the nOOb tailors shouldn't be charging 2k per crate of cloth, blah, blah, blah, I get cussed at and told that I was now being put on permanent ignore status.

What is everybody's stance on this? To burn schematics for free, or not? I have mastered tailoring, so it's nothing for me to burn one, but isn't that unfair to the newer tailors out there?

Well, I for one am finally glad this subject came up,although I was on the other end of this stick. Why did I become a tailor ? I asked every tailor on my galaxy I could find to make me a schematic for reinforced and synth cloth, I was going to provide the materials for the schematics and only need their time to create them. Don't stop reading, because I am about to show the ignorance of people. I was willing to pay 5k per qty 100 schematic, for what 60 seconds ofsomeone's time. Someone could of made 50k off me in less than 10 minutes. AllI ever got was, I am ripping tailors off, I will sell you crates for 28k per qty 100 (whenI alreadyharvested all the resources), and put on ignore for trying to explain 5k for 60 seconds of work sounds better than running even baz nitch missions. I believe to this day I am on 3 or 4 Master Tailors ignore lists for trying to be informative and politely addressing that no one in swg can make a pure profit any easier than what I was offering.

I am now a Master Tailor. I can see where there is profit to be made, and with every tailor I could find on my server being ignorant, arrogant, or rude to me I am rich for two reasons customer serviceand realization of value. Free schematics no way, but for a fair and reasonable price why would you want to harvest the resources, pay the maint, put the factory time in and sell the crates when in 60 seconds you could have made an instant profit because all you were out was 60 seconds max of your time... Money is made in labor and service, not in resources, someone will always undercut your products pricing.
