Thread: Tailors, death decay is going to hurt your class.
I understand that one of the reasons for death decay is that certain items such as clothing do not decay, and therefore players have no incentive to purchase new clothes from tailors. So the goal of death decay is to force players to purchase new clothing in the same way that they do weapons and armor.
Sorry, but I just don't see it happening. Since death decay will have an affect on weapons and armor as well as clothing, players are going to be forced to replace those items more rapidly than they currently do. Death decay only hurts combat classes, to whom weapons and armor are vastly more important than clothes. On the GCW and SWG Discussion boards, players have already said that they intend to wear nothing more than their underwear, as the need for clothing just isn't there. Instead, they'll be needing to buy insurance and spend more money on new weapons and armor. So in the end, it would appear that death decay is going to result in many players not purchasing clothing at all. It simply is not a high enough priority for them.
I'd like to challenge that . Clothing is not truly "necessary" now. But I'd bet you can not find a master of any profession or even a character that has been ingame for more than 2 weeks that still has his/her original starting clothing. My bet is you can't. Do you? If you are not wearing your original marksman (or whatever)clothing that you entered the game with why did you buy new clothing? It serves no purpose right? But you spent money on it at the time. Houses are not necessary and require credits to maintain them but yet many people still have houses.
So first off I think your point is invalid and secondly what the h*ll was your reason for coming into this forum and posting what you did? Oooh wait maybe it is a revolutionary new idea. No that's not it.
Quit trolling and stick to forums you know something about.
The non-combat classes are usually our biggest spenders and most loyal customers.
So really, not much is going to change for us.
Death decay won't really hurt us, but it's not going to help us much either. My biggest customers are all entertainers and artisans, who don't die that often. Any combatants too cheap to replace decayed clothing occasionallyare the types that buy the cheap low-level, used or lootedclothing off the bazaar, they're already not buying from me. If people want to look poor orsuper noobby running around in their undies, that's their business.
That being said, I don't support the death decay. If you actually read those we'll-go-naked threads you're talking about, you'll find several posts in many of them by me and other tailors saying that many of us tailors aren't for it. We don't think it'll help us. Sure there are some that think that any small amount of decay is better than what we have now, which is NO decay. But it's not really going to affect our main customer base, so it really won't help us very much.
We've been arguing since day one for slow, use-based decay that happens when the character is online and wearing the clothing. If you look at the Decay System thread that TH is currently posting in, you'll see that many non-tailor characters support this idea as well. This system would affect all players equally instead of targeting only combatants, and it's the only thing that will really help keep our economy viable in the long term.

A bit testy, aren't we? Your defensive posture leads me to believe that you are a proponent of death decay. That's fine, but surely you must know that the majority of players don't support it?
That having been said, I'm not trolling. I'm stating a point of view. It's my belief that death decay, which was proposed in part due to complaints from tailors that clothing does not decay, will be detrimental to your class. Now admittedly I don't know a lot about the tailor profession (although that will change soon. thank you holocron), but I do know what a lot of combat oriented players are saying. Do I still wear my newbie clothes? No. In fact I have purchased several different sets of clothing, including flight suits, infiltrator suits, headwraps, gloves, boots, paramilitary cammos, various shirts, jackets, dusters and backpacks. That having been said, if forced to choose between spending a more limited number of credits on new clothing or new weapons, I'll pick the weapons every time. Other players are saying the same thing.
Now, if the majority of your business comes from entertainers and other non-combat oriented characters, perhaps the opinions of combat oriented players doesn't matter. Either way, I can't see how death decay will help tailors. I apologize if that point of view is somehow offensive to you.
But while I'm here, anybody have a good macro for grinding out crafting xp? I'm finding that the xp comes pretty slowly once you get past the artisan domestic arts tree.

First off, most tailors, as has all ready been stated several times, don't agree with death decay. Second, reading a few threads before just blindly posting would show you how a majority of the tailors feel. Third, What can we do about it? We don't have an "in" with any of the devs, andeven if we did, we wouldn't call for the death decay.
The reason for death decay and insurance is that there is nothing out there currently to take money out of the system, but several ways to put a lot of money into the system. With this much money floating around itusually causes an artifical inflation that makes it more and more difficult for newer players to start out. It's a money dump andSOE is actually doing something wise about theeconomy before it gets too far out of hand (look at EQ's economy if you want to see something really out of whack).
And finally, don't come in here telling tailors that an implementationwhich we don't want anyway, is going to ruin our business and then ask us how to craft up. That's like goinginto a restaurant, telling them how their food isn't prepared right and that they need to fix it and then asking for a recipe.

Hey Altitude,
No I'm not testy and no I am not a fan of deathdecay. But you know what I am also not a fan of ? Some jack*ss with any random uneduacted opinion coming to a forum which he knows nothing about , to come shed light on what the combat professions feel. I suppose now you are the voice of the combat professions??? Bull s*#! I have a combat profession to and am involved in PvP and I dont hear the same thing. Maybe if you were a combat class correspondant I might care a little what you say, but they wouldn't have made such an uneducated post in the first place.
Again I ask what was the point of your first post? What did you hope to gain from posting it? If you can't answer those simple questions shut up and do something more constructive.
See ya!
"...on the SWG Discussion forum much has been said regarding death decay, and I didn't see anything in the way of tailorsopposing the idea. In saying that I felt it was going to be harmful to your profession, I was hoping that perhaps tailors who felt similarly would voice opinions of opposition to death decay."
The reason you didn't see anything in the way of tailors opposing the idea is because when it was first introduced we all went ballistic, posited alternative ideas, got more or less ignored and watched helplessly as the system many of us deplored was implemented on the TC and soon to go live so we see little incentive or motivation to keep wasting our breath posting on the discussion board now the information seems to have filtered down through to the majority populace whom are screaming about the new system only now when it's not going to change anything. Where were you guys when we were first asking for support for time/use based decay instead of death decay? Silent. As we are now.
Sorry for the run-on sentence and the rant. I don't usually rant. I'm just exasperated with the influx of the Hintocron powergrinding masters and people who come on here and give us heck when they don't know we've already tried our best to NOT have death decay implemented as it is.
If you've missed our posts on SWG Discussion and the Test Center forums, it's probably because every person with something to say about the decay issue feels the need to start their own thread somewhere. I know I personally have posted against it in at least 4 or 5 different threads, and have seen many of my fellow tailors doing the same. But trust me, any tailor who is really active in the boards is following this discussion more closely than most of the combatants.
As someone said above, we had a fit when this idea was first proposed, before it was ever put on TC. We started threads arguing against this decay that would target the combatants and leave our main customer base untouched. We started threads advocating use based decay, the same decay type all those who haven't been paying attention all this time are now for. We started those threads both in this forum and in the fast moving SWG Discussion board. The only response we could get from the devs was that they were looking for a type of decay that would affect all items, not just clothes. The only response we got from the combatant community was to stop being greedy crafters and stop whining. I'm sorry if you're feeling that we're not rising up enough over this issue, but we already did. And we were either ignored or called names over it.
To put it simply, we're tired. We're tired of posting the same arguments over and over in thread after thread, especially when it seems we're being ignored. Since release we've been pushing for use decay. Since the death decay idea was proposed we've been posting against it. In all that time we've got no real support from the combatant community. We've been supported in our posts by other members of the crafting professions. We've even had many posts of support for decay from the entertainers. Those who seem to make less money than any other profession in the game but still want to stand up and support their tailors. But although some combat types have made quick posts supporting decay, the majority posted things about how they'll go naked and how they're sick of greedy crafters. And now, when our issue, that we've been fighting for months, is finally going to affect combatants, all of the sudden they care. And now you want OUR support. So if some people posting in this thread seem a little bitter... that's why. ![]()
