Thread: I hate the socket thing!

Last night, at 1am, I wanted to go to bed, but I get this tell from a guy asking me for a black formfitting undershirt with intimate/warcry and 4 sockets, and a black mercenary bandolier with melee defense and defense vs stun with 4 sockets. I tell him I can try a few times to make one of each (I have some on my vendor, of course none has 4 sockets) but I don't promise anything, as sockets are random. I spent 20 minutes and 'wasted' 10 tissues of each to no luck. I told him after that that I couldn't waste more tissues, but that his clothes are available with 3 sockets each.

He never came to pick them up.

Wow 20 items and no 4 sockets at all?

You might want to invest in some clothing assembly skill tapes if you haven't already. Just the feeling I get from crafting but I'm sure I get more sockets than what most people seem to post on here.

Me too. Got one like that the other night. Told him that he had about a 5% chance (based on my calculations, I get roughly 1 item in 20 with 4 sockets) of getting 4 sockets, but if he got more than 2 he was lucky. The only concession that I am willing to make on these is that when I get 0 sockets (ugh!) I'm willing to redo them.

Do we even know that clothing assembly does *anything*? I mean when you get to master you have +80. +80 seems to equate to about a 5% chance of getting 4 sockets. What the heck would adding +5 more do?

I think it's random, doesn't matter at all how much +assembly you have really...

I just had someone else just ask me for a 4 sockets cartridge belt and I said he will have to do with 3... I just don't like people seeing me as lazy or rude but oh well.

I charge extra for "garunteed 4 sockets". Currently it's set at 500credits extra but i'm seriously thinking of upping it depending on price of the item.

I would NOT garuntee BE clothing with sockets unless they are willing to pay for the wasted tissues. 2k a pop.

Ok assembly helps prevent critical fails, I only rarely get them now using my tailoring outfit. As far as sockets go I'm not certain but I'm sure I've been getting higher socket rates than I've seen posted on here before. I might have a go at a set of items later and see how I do just to check that.

Hmm. Does anyone know if Pyollian bread makes any difference on assembly and socket randomness? Say you have a+12 assembly/experimentationTailor suit, super quality pyollian bread, research center city, crafting droid or 44+ crafting station, 15.00 rated crafting tool, no wounds, damage or BF... (all the known, suspected and superstitious good mojo stuff)

Does it make a difference at all or are sockets just evil?

hahahaha. oh my.. hahahahaha, sorry I can't help it. Just the thought of eating something that costs 100k/crate just at the hope of getting more sockets just slays me.

Here is my one (and only) experience with this evil stuff: I come back from Dath and Endor with some *real* hard to get dna to fill a customer order. I only have enough of it to attempt one combine so I guzzle bespin port and eat that bread and go to research city. So I throw the dna into the template, hit the buttom and ... BOOM critical fail immediately.
